Bluesking Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Check out the deal I just got:Marshall 2150 ComboThey say that these were one of the few with PPIV Master Volumes - the reviews are good, so I'm ready to run it through the paces. Will I have to replace the speaker if I use it as stand-alone amp? Will the 100 watts blow the V30?
El Kabong Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Nice amp. Demeter also uses a PPIV. I was watching one on eBay that went for about $485 in the UK, btu the shipping would have been terrible. If I didn't just get a Marshall Studio 15 for about 40% off the price that it is in the US, I would be envious. Congrats. The original speaker in those, I have read, were terrible. In regards to your question, how many Marshall cabs have 30 watt speakers, using 100 watt heads?
Disturber Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I have one exactly like that. 2150 - Great amps. I scored a Celestion G12B 150W speaker taken from an almost new 1912 1x12 cabinett. I don't think Celestion sell these speakers separately, but this one work really well with this amp. I think the B stands for more bass(?) Anyway it's got more than enough bottom, and a nice top. Gives a well balanced sound overall. Someone said this speeaker is similar to the G12 75, but I'm not sure. Sounds great though. I first mailed Eminence and told them my preverences where "Thin Lizzy, 80's Marshall tone and some ZZ top" kind off, for this amp. They recomended their Texas Heat speaker which can take 150W. So I guess that one could be worth a try. The Eminence is not that expensive either. Congratulations on a great amp. These are rare little tone monsters. Connect to a 4x12 and you have a full rigg of pure 100W JMP tone. How is that for versatility. Better than just owning a top. Post a tone report when you've had a chance to try it properly.
sirDaniel Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 "my ears are getting "older" - I prefer 6L6 amps now that are more versatile for gigs." did your ears get younger now?
ZR Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Rob from Valvetech explained it to me once but I always forget this stuff....Please explain the Post phase inverter idfference. What were the Valvetech amps? Did the original version start out one way and then he switched it? Thanks for the education!!
Disturber Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 SirDaniel - yep, I said that. However, due to a steady diet of Bon Scott-era AC/DC and Thin Lizzy, I decided to have another Marshall in the stable. Plus, for $700, it was a great deal. If you like AC/DC Bon Scott era then try plugging a Newport w Phat Cats into the 2150. Im nailing such a great Malcolm Young tone it's scary. Seriously, after playing for 20 minutes with this setup I speak with an Australian accent, it's that accurate!

Bluesking Posted June 27, 2006 Author Posted June 27, 2006 I wonder if my USA P90 Special will do the trick..............
