Hamer95USA Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Hey BCR Greg, Thanks for sharing the video. I've seen the Wooten Brothers before from this video. It's pretty cool way of showing the guitar & bass as a percussive instrument. Guitar George
atquinn Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Fast playing can be cool, but in this case, I was bored after a few seconds (and I consider myself a fan of the Wootens). Maybe I'm beginning to get infected by my wife's low tolerance for slap-'n-popping?-Austin
Moose Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I think Victor Wooten is one AMAZING bass player, but I didn't get why that guitar was cool. the guy was just sort of banging on it, there was no musicality, no tone, no melody, no anything other than some guy whacking strings -- seemingly at random. And even the bass got old pretty fast. The pop and slap trick is ok for emphasis in context, but it isn't that compelling in this case.
Jason01 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I dug it, I heard melody and musicality in the guitar, maybe not great tone but that wasn't the point of it. Guess its just a matter of what you listen for. Never really listened to either one of them before but that was pretty damn cool.
holLoWskull Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Very cool...count me in the minority that thinks that there was some cool and interesting playing going on by both guys in that video. Then again, I'm also someone who is bored of hearing nothing but the same 12-bar blues and pentatonic minor scales getting rehashed with predictable phrasing that seems to be appreciated by most folks. This sounds muscially 'fresh' to me even if it isn't my cup of tea so to speak, and I appreciate it on that level as well as both of the guy's percussive phrasing.
