belikerick Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I just got one (cheap from Overstock.com) in the mail yesterday and I REALLY like it. I'd like to see them live but it looks like they're only doing Texas right now.I also like Toadies ("Possum Kingdom" is one of my favortie songs of the 90's) but this band has a lot more ROCK going on. Brooks' assesment of a "pissed off Cheap Trick" (think "The Ballad of TV Violence", harder and faster) just about covers it. Vaden Todd Lewis writes interesting songs and his voice does creep into the Zandersphere when he gets into his higher range. Add some hyperdrive guitars and, yowza!, you got yourself a pretty good band.Hope they can stay out of the record company hell that sucked down Toadies and keep the tunes coming.
Smakutus Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 The Burden Brothers CD sounds like watered down Toadies.. (One of my all time favorite bands..) Having said this "Beautiful Night" should have been a hit song.out..Jeff.
belikerick Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 AGREED!!Did you ever get to see them live?I was really bummed when it took SO long for the followup to Rubberneckin to come out and even more when I heard they were kaput.I think this band is sonically better and can't wailt to hear them make more music.
elduave Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Did you ever get to see them live? Saw them once on the Hell Below tour. T'was great. I checked out Burden Bros. when I first heard of them but I thought the songwriting was sub Toadies and it reminded me too much of 80's metal for some reason. I'll give it another listen. FWIW, don't buy the Toadies live album. The mix is terrible and the audience is "canned' throughout.
Smakutus Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 The Toadies went through a lot of record label BS after Rubberneck came out.. Band members quit or were fired etc.. etc.. A great band who didn't put out enough tunes.out..Jeff.
Brooks Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 me & bruiser brody saw the toadies in denton tx around 90 or 91,i think mike daane (andy timmons band) ran sound. killer set. they did this song "i hope you die slow and painful" wher todd lewis was just blasting these awesome chris cornell badmotorfinger metal screams, he's got pipes he hasn't used, haha
Mindseyes Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 I mentioned the Burden Bros. about a year ago But i guess no one had heard them yet........Being in SW. Louisiana Ive had the pleasure of seeing the Toaides and BB. many times. The Toaides were one of my fav. bands and still are till this day....but the BB live show is killer the last time i seen them a few months ago they did a cover of REv. Horton Heats "$400 Bucks" that was just unbelivable,I also think Todds vocals have goten better since the Toad days.
