My Trans Blue Ash Daytona is about 8lbs. I wish it was a little lighter but it sounds great!

Post some pix. I'd love to see a trans-blue one!

Thanks,

Nick

Chris, I'll be there Sunday. I meant to be there last week, but the weekend was a damn blur, and I was actually restringing and cleaning at around 7:00 p.m.

Bill, I didn't think you were dissing my guitar, I can only imagine having 8+ pounds on your shoulder/back for more than three hours. Hell, I can't even caryy my golf bag around for 9 holes without bruising the area the strap goes over my shoulder. Maybe I am thin skinned. LOL

Awesome guitar Lou. Throw on a tortoise pickguard and she'll kill!

I've thought about it. Any soldering involved with that? Never done any work on a strat.

There wasn't when I changed the guard on my import Daytona. Just watch the cut by the neck. I had to trim it down, with improper tools, and I left a little gap. When I sold it I included the original pick guard.

No soldering is involved. Remove pups from one and place in the other. Too bad, I had a beautiful one that I bought years ago and I recently sold it to Luiss on this board.

Lou, give me some details on the Daytona...weight, neck thickness, tone...

Thanks!

It's fairly light. Never weighed it though. The hot rails in the bridge is just that: hot. Very un-strat like using that pickup -which I like. Nice crunchy tones and harmonics. The vintage rails are straty enough for me as I'm no way near being a single coil lover. Quacks nicely, zero hum. The neck fairly flat D shape, and the Birdseye is killer looking.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here but a long-time fan of Hamers, especially Daytonas and T-51's. :)

For those that are happy with their Daytona or T-51 aside from the neck profile, has anyone asked Hamer if they'll build just a new neck for their guitar to your ideal specs. I wonder how much it would cost, assuming a transfer of machine heads, etc to keep the cost down.

Any thoughts/experiences?

Thanks in advance

Hey silentman,

That's is very cool, custom ordered Daytona!! The birdseye neck, ebony fretboard, 6100 frets and Hot Rails/ Vintage Rails made my eyes jump out of my head as I'm used to seeing Daytonas with the Seymour Duncan Alnicos that usually come with that guitar. Did you order that from the factory when they first came out or did you buy that from a private party?

What frets were stock on an 89 Chap Custom and what was stock on Daytonas?

Thanks!!

George,

I bought it new in 96. I had some talks with a dealer who had a mirage I in stock with that pickup combo. We liked it. He went ahead and ordered the guitar with a few other features - I already had a custom diablo with 6100 frets. The birdseye neck was a Hamer change. I would venture a guess that this was because Hamer was just about ready to move to CT, and they were using up all parts. The guitar was not ordered specifically by me, but when it came in it was so nice, I couldn't resist. Another guy came in the store with cash and wanted to buy it on the spot. Lucky for me the shop called me and gave me passing rights. I put it on layaway on the phone and the other guy was so disappointed. He still asks about the guitar every once in a while. I actually considered selling it in a moment of weakness. It's a keeper.

The Stoptail Daytona:

I traded it to BluesBuster to get my Vintage Orange alder Daytona back.

I don't think he would ever let it go.
