MAP is $2,349 for the stock model. If there's a top upgrade, take it to $2,749. Not sure if there's a bound headstock or anything else, but factor that in. It should sell for the mid to upper teens, as Silentman mentions.

So the new Hamers are as expensive or more than a new Gibson. If I buy a Les Paul used or new for $3000 it's going to be worth more money when I ever sell it. I agree that the Hamer quality is much better for the most part but you can still get a killer Les Paul if you shop for less than $2000. Many have been sold on this board. Why in the world would anyone buy a $3000 Hamer when you can get a great used one for $1000. I think the higher priced they get the more they will lose there main market which is the bottom feeder players that are devoted to them. If I was rich I would buy one of the custom shop models for sure but how many people are? The prices are in PRS Gibson land now and they can't win that game without becoming like them. :P

actually, Bottom Feeders ( tm ) are not their market, because bottom feeders don't buy new.

There is a Studio Custom just like that one w/ gold hardware, binding all around and inlay logo in a store by me and their bottom price is between 1900 and 2000.

Hey Buck Dharma:

I'm talking about MAP Prices. I don't know of any dealer I've bought from selling Hamers at MAP. Dealers typically discount from that too - that's just the minimum price that they are allowed to advertise. The selling price for the Hamer I bought from Dave's 10 years ago was less than the marked (not list) price. Like anything in life, you need to ask.

Hamers are STILL a far better deal than most LPs, and if you buy ANYTHING based on resale you're probably going to lose money. I wouldn't give you $1,200 for more than half of the LPs I've played recently - many of them are simply crap compared to a lower-end of the line Hamer. At any rate, I don't give a hoot about resale - that's not why I buy guitars.

If you're shelling out $3,000 for a Hamer, that's custom order territory. You can buy a POS production LP for that price and you're in line with a few thousand other bozos with the exact same average guitar.

I bought this 96 in excellent condition with Lindy Fralin and Rio pickups for $900. Then I sold it for $900. Nobody would buy it for more than that. You can get a used Les Paul for $1500 throw it down the steps and then sell it for $2000.

That's interesting. My Studio is also a 96 (non-Custom) but it has the wrap around tail. Did the custom's get the TOM by default or was that an option? At any rate, that is (was?) a nice looking guitar.

Dave's Guitars always has the largest booth at the Dallas and Arlington guitar shows. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Hamers he brings with him to Dallas in April. I don't ever remember him having ANY Hamers at previous shows. I've made a few deals with him over the years and he's always treated me fairly.

Ken,

Better yet, I am waiting to see what Gibsons he's bring that will be discounted to Dallas, if they make it that long.

I also think alot of them are crap. But if you shop for a good one you can still get one. Somewhere there was a link to a Pete Townsend article where he said he had to go through about 15 to 20 LP's before he found a good one. That was when Gibson actually cared about quality. My friend just got a 57 Goldtop that sounds killer for $1600 used. I would give him three of my guitars for that one. I don't buy guitars for resale value either but why would I spend even $2000 for a new Hamer when I can buy one here in good shape for $700-$900. The custom stuff is a different story if I had allot of extra money I would have Hamer make me a dream guitar. There is at least three nice Hamers for sale right now on this board.

Okay, Elduave - you KNOW I'm not talking about that LP I was checking out last night at Rocketeria. That is definitely a nice one, and I'd pay the full freight for a LP like that one!
