SteveE9C6 Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I can't help it... I'm a sucker for cheap guitars. I was thinking about buying one of the Agile 335 clones but I found an Echotone on ebay for $299 with a Hamer HSC. I got free shipping from the guy by using buy it now. I've never seen or heard one of these but if what I've read is true they are quite the bang for the buck. Supposedly, they have a solid top as opposed to laminate? The only issue I could find was the Keyport tuners. Anyway, this one is Korean.. not Chinese for what it's worth.
hamerhead Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I have a Korean one and love it. The tuners are the low point, but functional enough that I haven't switched them out yet. You'll dig it.
Jeff R Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 My local Hamer dealer's had one NOS for a few years (not as cheap as the one you've found). I've played around with it and it's a nice guitar for the price you're lookin' at.
straightblues Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I have one and love it. It is Korean made. The new Chinese ones are crap, avoid them. Mine has been highly modified. It has grover imperial rotomatic tuners (same as those that come stock on the Newport), Nashville bridge, light weight aluminum tail piece, Lollar P90 pickups, a bone nut and CTS pots. It is my secret weapon, it is very nice guitar. I recently got a Hamer Newport which is a much better guitar than the modified Echotone. So now I am thinking of selling my Echotone. The only problem is I won't get much for it on the resale market. It has been my number 1 for several years so I think it will stay with me even though the Newport will see most of the playing now. Have fun with yours.
tomteriffic Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 My experience with the Korean imports has been very good, and that included an Echotone belonging to a friend, I was pretty impressed with it at the price point, which was consierably higher than three benjamins.
