Brownsound Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I broke down, traded in my Wolfgang Special and paid nice low price for a NOS Studio languishing in Music Store Hell today. Its a beautiful Studio Custom (pictures coming) 59 burst. It will go perfectly with my Standard Custom 59 burst.I had to bring it home. It was suffering from various small dings here and there, nothing large and it was in the section where the cheapies are and not behind the counter with the (stiffled laugh) Gibson Les Pauls. The only thing that worries me is the fact that one of the small dents in the back of the neck has creased the finish...so air and such can get to it. Its pretty tiny but there. Should I look into getting it fixed or just enjoy and maybe one day have the finish refreshed?I think I did pretty well getting the guitar for $1100 plus my old Wolfgang. What say?Dave
Brownsound Posted March 3, 2005 Author Posted March 3, 2005 And now I have twins....sort of... Sorry for the size
jwhitcomb3 Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Hey, nice twins!I've never played a Hamer Standard Custom. Is there much difference in tone from the Studio? Other than body shape, they seem identical.-Jonathan

I really expected them to sound almost the same but it seems that the pickups in the Standard are hotter, more highs with more gain and bite. I believe the Standard has a JB in the bridge and the Studio has a 59. Im hoping to confirm that.
fretknot Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Nice pair of bursts you got there! The major difference I see in my Standard over my Studio, is that the Standard sustains for what seems like hours. Acoustically it is much louder than any guitar I own, just amazing. It does have a korina body, though I am not sure if and how that contributes to the way it sustains, as I have talked to several people with mahagony bodied Standards, who claim the same.Congrats!

My Standard has a mahogany body. Its awesome with regards to tone and sustain. It reminds me of a "good" Les Paul. Punchy with good lows and nice thich highs. The Studio at first blush souns a bit muddier. Cant tell if its the pickup of just the characteristics of the wood although the wood is identical to the Standard I have.
