lusn Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I am looking at a Mirage, it is double humbucker setup. How are these in weight compared to say, a Studio? Any thoughts you can share will be helpful.
Guest hectorp2 Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Longer scale length...more snap...3-way blade switch (which I prefer to the toggle)...which, of course you could also then modify to a 5-way that could get you out-of phase sounds, etc. The only drawback is that the bridge is a little on the cheesey side for some tastes.
DavidE Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I've held maybe 4 of the flame maple top HB variety. All have been on the heavy side.
hardheartedbill Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I have a Mirage I and II, weight less than a studio, both have a tummy cut and straighter neck angle ala fenders , I love em and love the bridge, I don't have any trouble w/ the bridges, they stay in tune all night and I whammy like crazy, but to each his own

Travis Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I'v egot a Mirage I and it is an excellent guitar. Someday I would like to have a II as well.

AdmiralB Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I have a few. The heaviest I have is the blue one, which is about 8.7 pounds. The red one (which used to be HHB's) and the I are both under 8 pounds, and the honey one is right at 8 even. I'd say that the average Mirage II or maple top is a little lighter than the average Studio. All else equal the Is should be lighter as they have slightly thinner bodies. I've never had a problem with the bridge. If you stay on top of setup and maintenance, it's excellent.
hardheartedbill Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I'm begging you to put black rings and knobs on the scab! switch tip too LOL The thought of those 3 QP's in a Mirage I really intrigues me
AdmiralB Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I'm begging you to put black rings and knobs on the scab! switch tip too LOL The thought of those 3 QP's in a Mirage I really intrigues me With black rings it looks like a PRS. This gives it more of a wine red LP vibe, which is really one of my favorite (is Turdus listening?) 'looks'.The QPs are tapped; the miniswitch switches them from 14K to 7K. It's my favorite guitar.
Travis Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Admiral, one of these days I might be bugging you for one of those 2s. All of those are sweet looking guitars.
holLoWskull Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I don't have a precise scale, but my Mirage II maple top is approximately 8 pounds. I don't own a Studio (yet) but I do have a Special FM (kind of close??). I really like my Special FM, great guitar...however, if someone stole my Mirage II maple top, I'd hunt the MF down even if I had to chase 'em to the ends of the Earth to get that guitar back. To me, my blue Mirage II maple top is that incredible! Granted, I've done a few mods to it, but even in stock trim I'd venture Mirage II's are fantastic guitars. For me, the bridge is OK, kind of stiff, but when set up well, really sustains nicely with the guitar. Plus it doesn't float, so going between drop D and standard E tuning doesn't effect the pitch of the other strings noticeably when playing out live. I'm also partial to 25 1/2" scale guitars, so I might be a little biased to the Mirages anyway.
Lockbody Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 The QPs are tapped; the miniswitch switches them from 14K to 7K. It's my favorite guitar. Since that 1 is your favorite. I'm sure you'll let me buy that honey one. That one reaaallly does it for me.
