Caddie Posted October 27, 2007 Author Posted October 27, 2007 at ease gentlemen, Perhaps someone fat fingered the "C" and the "X". There are several perfectly good explainations of the Fender TBX Tone Control.noonan
RobB Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I had an early American Std with a TBX. Supposedly, from 0-5 its taper is similar to a standard tone pot. From 5-10 the mids/highs get goosed up a bit. It seemed to work better with a clean/mild overdrive sound than balls out gain. It was actually pretty usable in the 2 and 4 switch positions, IIRC.
PastorPaul Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 From GuitarElectronics.com: "Some Fender guitars come equipped with a special pot called a TBX Tone Control T (treble) B (bass) X (Cut) that cuts either treble or bass instead of a tone pot that cuts treble frequencies only. This is done with a ganged 500K-1M ohm control pot that is wired to work as a low-pass filter in one direction and a high-pass filter in the opposite direction. A center detent in the middle position is provided for the off or "flat" position. Although Fender altered their Start tone configuration to have the TBX control the middle and bridge pickups, it can be also be wired as a master treble/bass control. The TBX can also be used in place of any standard tone control on any guitar.:Some Fender guitars come equipped with a special pot called a TBX Tone Control T (treble) B (bass) X (Cut) that cuts either treble or bass instead of a tone pot that cuts treble frequencies only. Gino Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I had the TBX control on both my (93') Am. Standard Strat and on my (94') Am. Standard Tele and I think it was complete bulls**t! Changed both to regular (RS guitarworks) pots. However, you may use the one on a strat as a blender pot to blend in the neck pup with any given pickup selection. This gives you somewhat of a Tele-both-pups-sound on a strat when you blend the bridge pup in with the neck pup.Go here for how-to: http://www.kinman.com/html/toneWorkshop/pe...tar.htm#palette

Without altering the appearance of the guitar it is possible to add the bridge and middle pickup in series (like a Talladega) giving a P-90 like fat sound and than mix in the bridge pickup as much as wished. And it does so without losing the traditional Strat sounds. http://www.kinman.com/images/inside/ourPro...ratFunction.pdf Gabe
