the al di meloa thread reminded me to post about rod y gab;

dunno if they have been discussed here already,

but i just got this cd, and its really great.

they are a latin acoustic instrumental duo, w/ metal influences.

their tunes and sound remind me of dimeola's classic acoustic tunes like

"fantasia suite", "passion grace & fire", & the whole

"sat night in san francisco" album (w/ john mclaughlin & paco delucia).

check e'm out at

i play this kind of stuff and am currently recording a cd of some similar stuff, if you wanna hear imo the best at this stuff and the originators check out "strunz and farah" , they've been doing and recording this stuff for almost 30 years, jorge strunz is a player on the level of dimeola and mclaughlin, absolutely incredible, they have over a dozen albums out, there early stuff is my fave, particularly "guittaras", "frontera" , "america's" is also great.............................

There was an MTV spot playing a few weeks ago with them and Skolnick trading fours. Also been featured a couple of times in Guitar Techniques with a few lessons and workshops.. brilliant stuff!

ESTEBAN! :rolleyes: But seriously folks, I've been checking out some of this music lately and it's growing on me. Last night, I was checking out a '66 Gibson classical guitar and getting GAS quickly. There may be one in my future.

i've seen them in concert three times and they will blow you away, they are the ultimate combination of technique, fire , passion and taste, they really started the whole nouveau flamenco thing except they're a little more adventuorus and not so homogenized as some of the guys i hear doing it now(estaban, sorry dude but he's corny).............

strunz & farah. I like these guys - saw em once. Paco Lucia was certainly in the vangard in this movement. A few years earlier I think but less well universally popular. another name to add here is Otmar Leiberman (sp?). all these guys have wick chops and taste to spare. I don't know rodrigo y gabriella but will track them down.

I'm in love with Gabriela. Her rhythm playing is what makes Rod y Gab work. Its funny on the DVD she "shows" how to play Tamacun... shes like "just like this".... and then do this".... I'm like, rrriiiiigggghhhhhtttt.
