SteveB Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I am looking for a source for some Schaller locking tuners, specifically the full sized locking "top mounts" as shown in the link: http://guitar-machine-heads.com/hp33247/M6...s-Top-Mount.htm So far allparts and stewmac have been strike outs. I haven't been able to located anyone online that seems to have them either. Any ideas, or anyone know a schaller dealer than can order them? Thanks.
AdmiralB Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Schaller doesn't have dealers per se, at least in North America. They're repped by C. Bruno, et al, and very little of the line is actually available here.Google "touchstone tonewoods", it's an English luthiery supply house. I buy all my 'odd' Schaller stuff there. Pricey, but they can get it.EDIT - here ya go: http://www.touchstonetonewoods.co.uk/ttwp33.htmlGonna be over $150 a set by the time they get here, but if you have to have them they're probably the only game in town the world.
Scooter Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 If you do find a cheap source, let me know. I'd like a couple sets of those as well!

Those look to be the only tuners on the planet at the moment that *might* be a direct no modification replacement for the early PRS winged tuners. Might be pretty expensive to avoid a screw hole though.
AdmiralB Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Might be pretty expensive to avoid a screw hole though. On an early PRS, it'd be worth it to me. $150 is a lot of money, but not in comparison to a guitar. We pay that much for replacement pickups, after all.I got the nickel M6Ls I used on Mirages from them. Was better when the USD was stronger but I still paid over $80 for the last couple sets.

Yeah, normally I don't care that much, I replaced the tuners on my main player '91 with planetwave auto-trims even though I had to make a new hole and the old hole is still visible. I recently picked up an '88 Std 24 Studio though and on that one I'm reluctant to create new holes. But I *hate* the winged tuners. I also just got a '96 that has the damn things on as well. The "normal" locking M6's are different, but the top mounts seem to have the same case layout as the old winged tuners which were based off M6's. I downloaded the spec measurement sheet from Schaller... I"ll have to pull out the calipers and check all the measurements before committing.
cmatthes Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Steve:I'm one of the idiots who actually likes the old winged tuners! I guess almost 20 years of using 'em will do that to you though. If you ever want to ditch a clean, functioning set, keep me in mind.Sorry that I can't help you on the Schallers, but great score on the Studio! I've seen almost as many Virts in the last few years as Studios for sale.

I've seen almost as many Virts in the last few years as Studios for sale. The winged tuners work well enough, but sometimes its annoying to line them up. I suppose if you are consistent and always position the tuner properly before releasing the string that wouldn't be a problem so much, but I usually don't think about it and just release the cams; which is probably dumb, because then I have to look for the groove to get it back in position. I actually had a winged collar snap in half when I was changing strings on the Studio! Luckily I have spares laying around from my old '91 and another spare set of winged tuners I grabbed off the bay just to have around. The Studio is way cool. Probably as close to a production superstrat as PRS is ever going to get, with the HSS layout and trem uproute. I'm keeping my eye out for some el cheapo CE-24 that sneaks through ebay sometime though, for a floyd transplant. I also picked up a cool '97 CE-24 in flip flop paint job. Schweet.
Thundernotes Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Are they the same as these?http://www.warmoth.com/hardware/tuners/tun...n=guitar_tuners
