WTTF/WTB: 5-string Cruisebass or????

I just took on a gig as a bass player and need a quality 5-string, so please let me know what you guys have. I can offer trade bait or cash and have no problem with an example that has cosmetic issues, but obviously need something that is fully functional. I had a 2-TEK 5 string before and it was totally what I wish I had right now, but I couldn't seem to move it at $500 and wound up trading it in on something guitar related - go figure. I am not stuck on a 2-TEK version and not even on a Cruise, but prefer USA instruments over imports - unless someone is going to tell me the import Cruise is on par with the American-made versions with a PU swap or something. I am hoping the used market has yet to catch on to these still and saw a 2-TEK 5 not sell at a opening bid of $500 this week on an auction site, so I'm hopeful that I can get something for around 5 bills. Whatcha got? Thanks much. Z

You should email this guy and see if this one is still available.

Yeah, I did that and am awaiting his reply. That is pretty much exactly what I am seeking I guess. Any idea what the diff is between the 2 "phases" of the 2-TEK? I'm guessing the later version is lighter in weight but anything else I need to know? Are there 5'ers with the GOTOH bridge out there as well? Z

I don't think any 5's had the Gotoh, -too bad, I'm increasingly less a fan of the 2tek. Also, don't pass up a Chap5 if you have a chance to buy one of those.

I'll dare to say it here; Ibanez SR885's (made in Japan) can be extremely good, and market price is about $350ish or less, look for the chrome SR on the headstock.

Jimbilly, that's pretty hilarious since I am currently playing that very model! I scored mine at a pawn shop for $85 bucks and it seems pretty solid, just not as sturdy as the Cruise. I seem to be playing it too physically and any sort of kung-fu gripping of the neck makes it fret out and rattle - probably needs a pro setup. Maybe I should just suck it up and play the Ibanez rather than spend $$$ I don't really have on a Cruise. We'll see what pops up. Z

Not a USA, but real deal pickups. I've got one in 3-Tone Sunburst w/Maple board. Nice gig bag too. Holler if you want it...
