jwhitcomb3 Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I'm looking to buy an Eclipse (six string). It has to be USA, and I'd prefer a color other than natural. I've got a vague preference for a wrap around tailpiece, but that isn't a deal breaker.Modifications OK. Condition not terribly important...looking for more of a player than a show piece. I'd prefer to keep the cost down, but could be persuaded to dig deeper if you've got something that strikes my fancy.Lighter is better...no boat anchors please! Please send me a private message if you've got one you'd be willing to sell! Thanks,Jonathan
RickV Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I have a `95 Eclipse I picked up a couple years ago. It's what I think Hamer calls "vintage orange" finish. The neck feels medium to me. Mods (by previous owner) include TonePro fully adjustable wrap around bridge, chrome Dimarzio mini-Humbuckers (SD's are long gone), gloss black pup rings that really look cool on this guitar (original chrome rings included). Both tone & vol pots were replaced along with the knobs (plastic speed knobs). The original pots & chrome knobs included. All mods performed by the previous owner. Finish is very clean with typical light scratches for a 13 yr old guitar. The guy I bought it from said the difference between the Dimarzio's and SD mini's was like taking a blanket off the guitar... really opened up the sound. I don' t play much anymore & this guitar has gotten very little use. I've had several Hamers over the years (still have an original `93 Special) and this one is probably the most comfortable to play, extremely resonate and has a very nice vibe to it. Weight 7.5 on my digital BR scale. OHSC. I'd say condition is 8.5-9/10. I'd probably let it go for what I paid for it: $675 shipped (if I remember correctly). RickV

BadgerDave Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 This one is still available: I'll PM price and details
serial Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 BD:What's the Lawrence sound like in that one? Which model is that?
BadgerDave Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 BD:What's the Lawrence sound like in that one? Which model is that?Late 70's/early 80's NOS L500 IIRC. Sounds sweet and "humbuckery". Dark enough to let you use the full range of the tone control without getting ice-picky. Very smooth with outboard OD/Distortion boxes. Less mid-range peak and overall smoother than a Gibson minibucker or DiMarzio DLX-1. Of the three, I like the Lawrence A LOT better.
RickV Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Checked the serial # on mine. It's a `94, not `95. Checked the weight again (same BR scale). It weighs 8.0 lbs today.
straightblues Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I really love my Eclipse. Get one they are great. It truely is one of my favorite guitars. I keep trying to replace it with other much more expensive guitars but it somehow keeps coming out on top. The most underated guitars of all time IMHO.
