tommy p Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 There were a lot of weird double cutaways Les Pauls made in the 80's, sometimes with odd PU configurations (for Gibson) like one HB and two single coils, and factory locking trems. The bodies sometimes had binding, sometimes not, and some looked more like Melody Makers than Les Pauls. The important thing for me is that they had Explorer style headstocks.I'm looking for one with the more LP or LP Special type body, double cutaway, with binding preferred. I don't care too much about the pickup config or whether it has a trem on it.Chris Hayes of the News is about the only person I can remember who used one. There's a Huey Lewis concert on Comcast On Demand this month and and there's Chris playing that thing. I said, "hey, there's something no one else has that I can waste my money on." I'm sure we've all felt like that.Shoot me a PM with details and photos if you own the beast and wouldn't mind parting with it.
bubs_42 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Good luck, I think those Spirit's pop up on ebay every so often. My G/C had one with P90' s and I'm still kicking myself for not buying it....
tomteriffic Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I think those are cool as hell and first saw one in the hands of Chris Hayes too. Way back when in a News video. I thought it was some kind of mutant Hamer at first glanceI saw one this weekend at a local shop. Unfortunately it was just in for a setup as Dad had just given it to Junior as his first guitar. No dice on selling it. Dammit!
Joe G Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 There's an Epiphone 1982 Spirit on Ebay right now. Item number: 380017781573. That one has humbuckers. I am not the seller.

bizzwriter Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 How 'bout this '82 Sonex on San Diego Craigslist for $450... '82 Sonex EDIT: OOPS no Explorer headstock -- nevermind!

Thanks for trying, bizz. You get points for the avatar, and (unbeknownst to you) the fact that a black Sonex 180 Deluxe was my first guitar ($299 with chainsaw case). I put a mirrored pickguard on it in an effort to make it look cooler. Can't be done.
