Jeff R Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Here's your chance to show off the oddballs, the lawsuit and import otherwises, the cheapos, the beaters only its owner could love, etc... I'll start with these two I rescued from one of the local guitar pounds last weekend. First, a 1977 Ibanez Deluxe 59'er "Sunlight Special." This is what happens when a Les Paul and a vintage Telecaster have a baby... Is that a LP Standard's backside next to the Ibanez? Nope, it's either a 1976 or '77 Aria Pro II PE-120. No serial number (at least none I've found yet), set neck, lawsuit headstock and one of the most FUN guitars I've played in a long time. It KICKS ASS. I just try to ignore the inlays... (that's some residue on the neck position cover left over from a sticker of some sort. Those squeal generators, I mean pickups, are getting pulled and put aside VERY soon. Shitty!) The Ibanez is likely hitting eBay this weekend. I really don't need it. The Aria Pro II is getting nice pickups, real potentiometers, real versions of those chicklet-things you melt to them, and I may eventually replace its crusted out original bridge. I'm keeping it. Stoopidly great guitar for the money I spent on it. Your turn.
Steve Haynie Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 If I remember those Aria guitars correctly they were sort of light compared to real Les Pauls of the day. How is yours?
Brooks Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 this thread calls for the infamous "chinese fake hamer les paul supreme w/ hockeystick headstock & floyd";
Stike Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 this thread calls for the infamous "chinese fake hamer les paul supreme w/ hockeystick headstock & floyd"; Would you bring that over sometime? It looks stupid fun.

Jeff R Posted April 19, 2008 Author Posted April 19, 2008 If I remember those Aria guitars correctly they were sort of light compared to real Les Pauls of the day. How is yours?Yeah, it's lightweight alright. It weighs about as half as much as an '82 LP Standard I'm babysitting for a friend. I guess it's around 8ish on a scale.I'm eager to do the pickup swap on it so I can see exactly what it's made out of, and if the top cap is totally solid or with some degree of airspace between the cap and the back slab. Due to the weight and a distinct woody hollowness when I play it unplugged, I'd suspect it's got "some" chambers in it, likely from a "construction on a budget" purpose. But not that it matters anyway...
bizzwriter Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I loved this Frankenrocket -- it was an early '60s Harmony Rocket body mashed up with an early '70s National neck. The neck looked like it was 30 or 40-ply maple. The guitar had a great vibe with its (Gibson???) p-90s and sounded great through EL-84 amps. Sold it after I picked up my ES-330...
