atquinn Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 SOLD PENDING PAYMENT!!! Well, it was hotly contested, but my '04 Studio won by a nose. The Newport Sounds better and hangs better, but the control ergonomics of the my Studio are a bit better for me and I figure (hope?), I can get close sound-wise with some pickup gyrations on the Studio (). Anyway, As you can see, this has the usual mahogany back and neck, but with a AAA flame maple top in tobacco sunburst. Also has the Willcutt-approved ebony fretboard with 10 victory inlays. The stock pickups have been replaced by WCR Crossroads which are the nicest PAF set I've heard (take that with a grain of salt; PAF sets are generally not my bag). The toggle switch has also been replaced, but I don't believe the pots have. The guitar is in excellent condition and the frets have a little fretwear. The included OHSC is also in excellent condition. Here are some pics, go to http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v157/atq.../Newport%20Pro/ for more: $1650 shipped. I'm not looking to do a trade, but you guys know what I like, so feel to offer me partial-trades . Thanks for looking. -Austin
Guest pirateflynn Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I had one exactly like that and it was incredible.
Gino Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 What happens soundwise if the pups are installed so that the coil with the studs are in the outer positions like on this guitar??
atquinn Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 Thanks for the compliments guys. It really is a beautiful guitar. It cries out for the delicate touch of a true artist. And so, it must go. -Austin
atquinn Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 What happens soundwise if the pups are installed so that the coil with the studs are in the outer positions like on this guitar??The effect is fairly subtle with most humbuckers, because the coils on most humbuckers are wound the same (which I assume is the case with these). From what I recall, the stud coil is the hotter coil (because the rods transmit the magnetic field better than screws). So, by flipping around the pickups so the rods are on the outside, you might end up with a neck humbucker that is a bit darker and a bridge that is slightly brighter. It's hard to say what the specific affect on this guitar is because I replaced the strings and tweaked the pickup heights right away. If they sounded crappy, I would've turned them back around, but they sounded great, so I didn't. It's an easy experiment to try for yourself (you don't evey have to swap the strings), so I'd recommend doing that so you can make up your own mind about the results.-Austin
