gatorbyte007 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Hey Guys, I know this is a long shot but Im trying to hunt down a neck for a Gibson victory Bass. Anybody have any clue where to look??????
Bloozguy Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I've seen a few complete instruments for sale but never just a neck.If you can't track one down you could contact USA Custom Guitars or Warmoth and they may be able to make one for you. They seem to have a lot of resources for getting rare stuff and tracing the headstocks, etc.
serial Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 There was a guy selling dumpster-salvaged Gibson parts a couple of years back. He had several project necks, but that doesn't help you now, I know. Maybe put an ad on the Gear Page or something and possibly connect with one of the purchasers?

I would say more like 7 or 8 years ago if your refering to the ebay guy. The guy was selling scrap for sure. I got a Futura (Gibsons 80's version) which was a Corvus (PacMan looking body) except it's a one peice body and neck instead of a bolt on. It had been bandsawed at the middle of the body and glued back together. It reminded me of playing Pacman for hours on end when it first came out. I think it was $50. I forgot to add this link. You might ask over there. There's a Gibson section. http://bassoutpost.com/
cmatthes Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 There's also a guy on there currently who is selling a lot of 70s/80s-era Gibson stuff (probably from Kalamazoo). He had a number of bass necks/blanks earlier on this summer, has pickups, fingerboards and some real oddball stuff ('79-'81 V-2 boomerang pickups and rings and RD parts). This is not the bandsawed stuff that's been around for the last 10-12 years or so - this is either first-quality, unused shelf stock or incomplete parts and blanks. While I don't recall seeing a Victory bass neck, it's possible that there is something like that kicking around, as the production timing is right for that model. He actually had an old Firebird neck and body wings, stamped with a serial number and all, just not glued up. I got outbid pretty early, and went kind of high on those too!

This wasn't the legendary bandsaw guy. There were a lot of neck blanks and fingerboards and a few bodies here and there-I remember the Firebird, but I think that was around this time last year. I bid on it as well, but got out-I have WAYYY too many projects cooking that I'll never get finished!
marcnorth Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Yeah the stuff came out of a storage shed in Kalamazoo, I got a nos set of chrome Thunderbird PU covers from the guy. Brand new still wrapped in the tissue they came in. I was thinking about hiding a set of Dimarzio model G's under them, they fit perfect.

marcnorth Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 LOL It's hard to resist the temptations sometimes.
Russ Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 That seems like a pretty long long shot, especially considering there's no 'close enough' on that one. I've got an '82, but not ready to dispose of it just yet... You might want to give Dave's Guitars in Wisconsin a shot. He appears to have some of everything that Gibson's ever put out (most of which is in his private collection, but, hey, ya never know)... davesgtr@aol.com Good luck with the quest... (and here's mine btw)...
