Jazzerman Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 "Just Friends" on my Hamer Sunburst. This is one of the earliest Sunbursts ever produced (april 1977), it even does not have a serial number. Heck, it may well be a prototype.http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=Just-FriendsIt's very hot over here so I am playing in my undershirt and shorts ...The other link tolerates downloading ....Dick from the Netherlands
jujisque Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Wow. That's awesome. Sounds great and that's some amazing playing. I love jazz guitar, and that was about as good as any. Thanks for posting.Hey, do you think you could fill us in on what equipment you were using? The tone is great.
tomteriffic Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Great playing and a very cool tone! It strikes me a bit funny to look at a Sunburst like that and hear playing and tones coming from the jazz realm from it. It's probably because of the abuse and cacaphony I inflict on mine....
gitman Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 i have allways wondered why not more players use this type of guitar for that dark and smooth, sustaining sound - one name that comes to mind is John Abercrombie :for a long time he used different Les Pauls and similarly constructed Ibanez models. Pat Martino plays a solidbody and so does the guitarist/leader of The Tonight Show, Kevin Eubanks. when you think about it, Les Paul himself .... !
Steve Haynie Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 The video is a little out of sync with the audio at points, but overall it was fun to watch and more fun to hear. You're good!Add me to those who like hearing that solid body electric used for jazz. The tone I'm hearing is dead on for that kind of music. Lately I have been listening to Roy Lanham, and he used a Fender Jaguar for playing jazz. He said the settings on the guitar and amp have more to do with the tone than the type of guitar itself. He was right. You have a cool guitar, too.

I ran the Hamer through a Digitech RP 300 amp modeller (preset "jazz") which sounds very much like my Polytone amp that I use live. The Digitech allows me to record "silently" though. Some great jazz guitarists that have used solid bodies are:Joe Pass (Fender Jazzmaster or Jaguar?)Ed Bickert (telecaster)Lorne Lofsky (Les Paul)Pat Martino (Les Paul)Ulf Wakenius (Les Paul clone)Les Paul (of course)Wayne Krantz (strat)John McLaughlin (Les Paul)Mike Stern (tele)Regards,Dick
jujisque Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 To your list I'd have to add:Al Di Meola (Les Paul) He actually recorded a bunch with Les Paul himself.
