Hey guys, had a few questions about my T-51. I have heard that these were sprayed with nitro, is that true? Also for you owners out there, how do you like the stock bridge? Mine works great, although it is really corroded. Are there any other bridges out there that I might like better? If so, do they fit in directly? Thanks for all info.

I don't know about the nitro, but I liked my stock bridge alright. Nevertheless, I replaced it with a traditional Callaham Tele bridge which I like even better. No additional drilling was necessary.

What's the right model for this ?

I replaced the stock bridge with a Wilkinson/Gotoh compensated 3 saddle.

Huge improvent in overall tone and boing factor. Didn't cost much either.

I really like the original Wilkinson tele bridge. It's got great coupling as each saddle is screwed tightly to the basplate = better sustain. It works like a "sustainblock tele bridge" It might have a bit more oomph to it compared to a traditional tele bridge, not as thin and perhaps a tad less spank. But I'd say it's less ice picky and it works great for more modern tele sounds, great for slightly overdriven rock and a little warmer clean sounds. Just what I like.

But If you are a traditional honky country tele picker and want that thinner vintage clean tele sound - then a traditional design with brass sadles might sound different and more in that style. I don't chicken pick, so this is not what I'm after.

My guess is that the reason Wilkinson does not produce these bridges anymore has more to do with the fact that people choose with their eyes and not with their ears when they buy eqipment. The bottom line is that a more traditional design on their bridges sells more product - so they changed the design.

I believe the finish is urethane. The color coat may be nitro. It definitely isn't entirely nitrocellulose- I think they stopped doing that around 1990 or so.

I love the stock bridge. It has tons of sustain and good adjustibility.
