<Salute!>

Way to go Proxmax! Great looking guitar. I loved the OBLs in the Cali i had. Getting Haeussels for this one, too?

thx veatch.

changing pups is a good question.

i'll leave the OBLs in for a while - right now i like them.

they are a good addition to the other guitars.

they could have a bit more bass, but with the diezel herbert no problem.

they don't have that high output smack the haeussel Tozz Xl has,

but they sound very nice clean the trebles are very nice with

a damn cool and loud palm mute clicking.

and they fit optically to the tigerstripes :)

cheers

The seller had that guitar on craiglsist at least two or three times for around $2K IIRC. As for them being rare or hard to find, not more than 2 or 3 months ago two Cali Elites came up for sale right here on the HFC. In fact you'll probably see even more come up for sale here if buyers keep paying these kind of prices for them. Speaking from first hand experience if people are patient and take the time to search around these guitars can still be found for half (or less) of what these recent ebay prices have been.

I have been hunting a good Cali for months and finally broke down and snagged an pristine Cali Elite with custom airbrushed graphics and Bill Lawrences for 1700. Compare that to the 3 grand Proxmax wanted for one his Standards and 3+ grand some guy on E(vil) Bay wanted for his stainless steel fretted, gold OFR Cali. No thanks. My rectum is still sore from the $1700 raping I suffered because of my compulsion to acquire that Elite. But DAMN! is it nice. :)

hi honey,

my calis are no standards!

the prize results from the ridiculous weak dollar.

btw i didn't offer you my cali - you offered to pay that prize!

i said i'd let one go - maybe!

keep your airbrushed stuff and leave the real deal for people,

they know what they are talking about!

nevertheless - i don't sell my calis [all figured maples :) ]

but, have fun with your new guitar, you will like it!

Ouch! Easy there, mein freund! I mistook your Elites for Standards. That was my bad. The weak dollar might explain the higher price you suggested but true to my earlier post- you were the one who initially stated that one of your Cali's might be for sale. I did not take into account the currency rate of exchange. And preferences for airbrushed finishes over translucent finishes is purely subjective- that is, a matter of opinion. To suggest that one or the other is the real deal indicates that I'm not the one who doesn't know what they are talking about...

maybe also a matter of opinion, but mainly different in worth and prize.

it is not the finish, it is the wood under it, combinated with the rarity in comparision to

the "normal" ones with mahogany body.

those guitars are still fantatstic players, but not that interesting for collectors.

we both were too late in buying calis, couple years ago we had paid the half.

peace!

you probably would not get a figured Maple Cali for less than $2500. $3000 is reasonable for a beauty or two like those Proxmax has. (but i doubt they are for sale.)

To those who are looking for a Cali. Keep looking. they do come up semi-often. you just have to be patient and know what you want and how much you are willing to pay to get it. Still there are bargins to be found on Cali's. just keep searching.

Maybe if you ask Jem nicely he'll make you a beautiful one similar to the Cali Nocturne Guitars you'll just have to wait a little while for it to be made.

like this one JackButler's Nocturne Guitar.

Fair enough. Since I'm more of a guitar player and not a collector, that's a consideration in determining a guitar's value I would not have factored. I wonder what the collectible status of my 1988 Hamer custom shop Cali Elite with factory airbrush finish is? Truthfully, I don't care as long as it plays well!

Rock on!

Maybe it's different here in the US, but I think custom graphic finish Cali's are every bit as collectible as the maple Cali's. Both are somewhat rare and the custom paint vs. figured wood is probably more a matter of personal preference as both were a hefty up charge back in the day these guitars were built. Hopefully this doesn't come off as an insult as it's not meant as one, but the fact that at around $1,700 you probably shelled out a little more than the guitar probably actually sold for brand new almost 21 years ago should be proof that your 1988 Cali has collectible status (it will probably continue to increase in value once it hits vintage status). Glad to hear the guitar will have an owner that will play it too, as beautiful as they are to look at they were created to be rocked out on! :)

I think along the same lines. As I tried to convey to proxmax, it's a subjective assessment- one man's airbrushed Custom is another man's flame maple Elite. And in the end, if it rocks, who cares? I snagged it because it's a USA Cali. If I wanted a pretty piece of art to flaunt, I'd buy a Degas or Monet and hang it over the sofa. Need I say more?

Do you have any pics of your Cali with Graphics? would love to see it :)

if it's that blue one from ebay. Beautiful Score!!
