hamerhead Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 The other guitarist in the band uses a Mesa Dual Rectifier and has a very good tone - on stage. The problem is out front. He sounds like ass in the mains. He's going direct from (I think) the effects send of the amp (which I'm pretty sure is the problem). It sounds like - remember when you plugged your guitar into the mic jack on your cheap stereo? - It sounds like that. Only with about 3000W behind it.He's using a Boss ME-50 pedal that sounds good thru the amp. I'm thinking we take one side (it's stereo) straight to the board or use a SansAmp or something.ANY help would be greatly appreciated. It's fingernails on the chalkboard as it is.Thanks
hamerhead Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 <If it sounds good, how come you're not mic'ing it?>Good question! LOL! I suggested that but, for whatever reason, they run direct and I don't argue - yet. I'm using an old POS solid state Yamaha amp that has a direct out on the back panel and it sounds OK, though I'd rather mic it as well.
SirDouglas Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 since i use ampegs i alwasy run direct out to the board... i dont have a problem with the sound... ive never been mic'd before but the guitarist always was mic'd to get the sound right from the amp.. imho it sounds better for the guitarist to be mic'd Sir Douglas Randy
tralfax19645 Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Hi, I would try the Tube Amp Doctor F.A.N.T.A. I have one premanently wired into my amp. It is like a H&K red box, but requires no batteries. Does a great job of capturing your amps tone for for plugging strait into the board. I bet it would be a good match for the mesa. rob
Jeroen Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 I hate direct playing, cause it simply sucks. I always let the sound guy put a mic before my amp, what you hear is what you get......if you aren't using somekinda Alecto mike.Jeroen
