Hamer95USA Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Hey guys, I've had my Diablo for awhile now. I had to restore almost all of the Schaller tremolo bridge parts and had the frets leveled, crowned, and polished. The guitar plays like butter now, but I find the neck sort of chunky. I'm thinking of having the back of the neck shaved down to be like my Diablo II by my guitar tech since I like the neck shape & feel of the Diablo II guitar. What do you guys think of this? Has anyone else done this to their Diablo guitars? Guitar George
zorrow Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 For me it was the opposite: I sold my Vector KK because I found the neck too thin to my tastes. So, personally, I wouldn't modify the guitar. Any mod will alter its tone and its feel. I would just sell it to a player that will appreciate what I hate, and then would buy something else I'd really like.
atquinn Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I've had 2 Diablo II's and 3 Diablos and they all had shredder thin necks, but for some reason the line has a reputation for having thicker necks? Anyway, I would advise against shaving the neck unless you're going to keep it forever. It would be much more economical to buy a Diablo with a thin neck and swap necks, then sell the Diablo off.-Austin
Don Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 The neck on my early Diablo is what i would consider thin, though not "shredder thin". It has pronounced shoulders that make it feel thicker than it actually is.I prefer big necks (the neck on my Strat is a USACG boatneck (almost 1" thick "V" neck) and I still find the Diablo's neck to be acceptable.I didn't like the Strat's original neck so I sold the neck and replaced it with the USAGC neck.I wouldn't consider shaving a guitar neck unless I loved the guitar and the neck's size was a real problem.
Travis Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The neck on my old 95 Diablo was pretty chunky. That was one of the things that I liked about it. I've never been into the shredder thin necks, though.
