DYI guitar cabs

Question

Hi,

I am planning to build myself 1x12 and 2x12 cabinets. This is part fun, part need project and since in my country prices for decent cabs are over the top, and my father has all tools and workshop at our family summer place, I think I can save some money too. I tried googling searching for drawings or "How to" books, but found nothing substantial.

I am sure there are cab makers on the forum who has information I need (drawings, literature recommendations, advice), so if you read this, please help me

For advice I bascially need direction how material differs sound (e.g. pressed chipboard vs plywood vs pine), and what are basic differences between closed back and vented cabs?

1x12 will be mainly used with Ceriatone HRM running Fane Sudio 12L speaker, 2x12 will be for Matchless D30 clone head.

Thanks in advance!

I'm building a 1 x 12 cab this summer sometime also. I'm using a nice piece of 1" exterior plywood (because I already have it)

Screw and glue construction (because thats how I build everything)

Nothing fancy ... closed back with 12" weber ceramic blue dog

I'll post pics and let everyone know how it turns out

Just for basic information sakes ... I'm planning on making a ext. cabinet for a single weber ceramic blue dog 12" speaker

I've been checking around and decided to email Ted Weber, after all its his speaker plus he makes cabinets thus, a no brainer. ... The dimensions I emailed him with were 20" width, 12" depth and 16.5 tall. Exterior dimensions using 3/4 " baltic birch plywood.

his response was "perfect!" and to make the back removable so you could experiment with open back / closed back design to determine which sounds better with your setup ...
