tomteriffic Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 OK, I warned you, I'm smalling down. After going through the herd, I decided this is the one Hamer that is kind of a duplicate, since my '79 Sunburst is getting it for me these days. I paid $425 for this, the previous owner (johnfrmcal) paid that as well, and that's what I need to get out of this plus shipping. There's even a stock sticker from a music store with that price on it on the lower cutaway. It's an '81, red sustain block Special with checkerboard logo. As far as I can tell, it's all original. No cracks or breaks. The tonal range on this is very, very wide. On the other hand, it's definitely been around the block, lots of dings and chips, big buckle rash, etc. If you were wondering what the Early '80's Sustain Block/Custom Wound DiMarzio thang was all about, here's an excellent chance to find out for cheap. Heck, this is even worth it for the parts if you have another Special/Sunburst from the era that needs the original parts. Herewith, some pics. If it looks like a ding or imperfection, it probably is. PayPal OK, add 3%.
rmahurin Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 IMHO, early 80's sustain block Specials with the Dimarzios are magical beasts, and this is as cheap as you're likely to see one. I don't think i'll ever sell mine.
tomteriffic Posted July 17, 2005 Author Posted July 17, 2005 If I didn't have a '79 Sunburst and an '81 Graphic Special, I wouldn't.....
tomteriffic Posted July 17, 2005 Author Posted July 17, 2005 Jim, most of the necks from that era were slightly on the thin side of medium, but not '93 Special kinda thin. These are not the current crop of baseball bats. But not Ibanez Wizard skinny either.
Lockbody Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Wow. If I just hadn't bought a Studio...What an insane price for a sustain block git.
tomteriffic Posted July 17, 2005 Author Posted July 17, 2005 Action is very low and fast. Frets are in good shape, with negligible wear and enough height left for a couple of dressings.
BadgerDave Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 A word of advice: BUY!Tom is easy to deal with and absolutely trustworthy. This is a early Hamer classic that's getting harder to find every day, and the price is stupid low.Someone else is gonna get it and you'll be kicking yourself.I'd be all over it if I didn't already have one.
tomteriffic Posted July 17, 2005 Author Posted July 17, 2005 SOLD!Sincere thanks to one and all who inquired. I never expected such a response.Tom
ET_KenW Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Wow, and I was going to talk to the wife about it for the kids.
data187 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 congrats to the buyer...if i had a little more time to get the $$$, it would of been mine...lol
