Feynman Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Thanks for this. Are you typing out all those hyphens?! There has to be a better way.Brooks, you inspire me. I don't know nothing about nothing, but I would like to. I have a good teacher, but he's not as cool as you are.
mathman Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 it would be cool to have recorded samples of these. I have plenty of space on my dot mac site for audio files if an online place to link them is needed.
Brooks Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 yeah, it would be easier and clearer if i could just record a short vid.my camera doesn't load right to youtube, i hadda get my geek buddy to edit/convert it.anyone know a cheap camera that will upload direct to youtube?i you saw a vid of this stuff,the main thing you'd get out of it would beseeing how these are symetrical fingerings,the same finger motion just shifted around the neck.
Guest pirateflynn Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I can play these and I've already mix them up with some other stuff that I do and it sounds cool. But, I have no idea what I'm doing! haha
Question

Hiya HFC brethren.
Continuing w/ the idea of symmetrical fingerings,
we have the daddy of them all, diminished.
The easiest fingering (to me) is this dim7 arpeggio;
-------------------------------11-14
-----------------------10-13-------
-----------------8-11---------------
----------7-10---------------------
-----6-9---------------------------
5-8--------------------------------
try it legato (w/ hammer ons/pull offs),
it' easy to fly on.
also try a sequence
(up 3 strings, down one, up three, down one, etc);
-----------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------10-13- etc.
---------------------------8-11-------8-11--------
----------7-10------7-10-------7-10--------------
-----6-9--------6-9--------------------------------
5-8-------------------------------------------------
the nature of a fully diminished chord is it's symetry of intervals
(it's all minor thirds). so, the patern shifts positions (minor thirds)nicely;
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------8-11-------------------11-14----------------------14-17 etc.
----------7-10------------------10-13-----------------------13-16--------
-----6-9-------------------9-12-----------------------12-15---------------
5-8-------------------8-11----------------------11-14----------------------
again, try it legato, mix it up w/ trills etc
it' easy to move across the neck. make up some licks;
5-8-5--------8-11-8----------11-14-11------------14-17-14---
-------4-7-4----------7-10-7-----------10-13-10------------13
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
i know this was short, but i'm freakin' beat
(and this shit takes longer to type than it looks, ha).
next we'll do hole/half & half/hole diminished scale fingerings.
