tomteriffic Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 This resonator is a killer machine. It used to be mine. It also has the same Lace Sensor pickup that National installs on theirs. Chris is a straight-up guy to deal with.
Pieman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 BumpChris, tell us why we need to have a tri-cone resonator. Do you hold this in front of you like a dobro or do you play bottleneck style? Is it a round neck? Case?
Stokesdead Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 Thanks PiemanWhy do you need a Tri-Cone resonator.....the original reasoning behind the resophonic guitar was that the lowly guitar player couldn't be heard above the "big bands" of that era when picking his flattop. This was pre-electric days mind you. So the Dopera brothers came up with a solution. That is why they needed it. But that still doesn't answer why YOU need one. YOU need a resonator because of the very unique and instantly recognizable sound they produce. If you even dabble in slide it would be a really good idea to have some sort of resonator around to keep in your favorite open tuning. But dont forget fingerstyle, I play fingerstyle on a resonator and it really does sound very good and gives a much richer sound than an acoustic flattop alone. This particular resonator is a Tri-Cone model which has ...thats right you guessed it... 3 cones to vibrate instead of just one single cone. A Tricone will give a more complex tone than the simpler single cone models. A lot of people see a resonator and think Delta blues but there are many different styles of music where the resophonic guitar is used. Everything from Hawaiian music to Blues to Country and even Rock. Oh and one more thing... if you play out and pull this one out of the case you will be getting some attention that night. It draws people like moths to a flame. They all want to know what "that thing" is. It really is a very cool guitar. I love playing it and have played many resonators that fell way short of this one. This is the best resonator I have ever owned. NO SHIT!A couple more points....the guitar is a roundneck model the action is set up to allow either slide or standard playing stylessemi-hardshell case is includedthe case is really nice. Its basically molded styrofoam with a black canvas outer and plush insides. The case is really light as well which is nice because being a brass body'd guitar you can imagine it has a bit of weight to it. A standard hardshell would add even more weight.Ill even throw in a glass slide.ps. I am still hoping to get pictures of both guitars up soon. The weather is not cooperating though.ThanksChris Stokes
Stokesdead Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 "National" branded Tri-Cone Resonator. I believe the guitar was made by Republic. The body is nickel plated and highly polished. Slightly tarnished from being played but I can polish it up with some flitz before shipping it if the seller would like. It has replacement National brand cones and pickup installed and they sound really really great. Seriously this thing smokes and I will regret losing it. Asking $600. Thanks again, Chris Stokes
Stokesdead Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 bump.... need to move these as soon as possible cause im walkin.ThanksChris Stokes
unfun75 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 If Tak had made the top as awesome as the back, that guitar would be BOSS! Even still, very pretty guitar and good deal. I wouldn't let my Tak go for that low.
Stokesdead Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 Ok these are going to ebay just as soon as I find the time to set up the listings. I know everyone is strapped right now so make me an offer. ThanksChris Stokes
