Tele bigsby question

Citrus

Question

Posted

Considering putting together a tele style guitar with a bigsby.

I've checked out Warmoth USAguitar parts and a couple of others.

It seems one can do a traditional tele style bridge or a Tune o Matic

Any thoughts as to the pros and cons of either style.

I'm looking at doing a single filtertron bridge pup with the bigsby

I would go with the tune o matic versus a trad tele bridge or the Mustang/Jaguar rocker bridge setup. Seems like the TOM setup would be easier to dial in.

I've seen many Bigsby Teles with the trad, 3-barrel tray bridges. Some players file out notches on the end of the tray to make way for the strings. I don't like the way it looks, though it might help with the tuning, less friction, etc. YMMV.

If you've got a drill press, don't forget the Tom Anderson mod on the Bigsby:

If you are going Filtertron get the body from USA Custom and go with the B5 and nashville tune-o-matic. Just make sure you get the angled neck pocket to work with the tune-o-matic.

I have had absolutely ZERO problems with this set-up. The tuning stability on this guitar is shocking. I had a Bigsby on a Newport and it had all kind of tuning issues, this one is fantastic.
