Gabe Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Let cheap chick sleep with the guitar a couple of nights. If you are lucky it'll smell like cheap chick, must be much better. Gabe
Hamer95USA Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 What freaks me out about this story is.. how high up was the guy playing it that he got BO on it? Hey Cheap Chick, What's up? This is the first time I actually owned a stinky used guitar. When I got it a couple of months ago, its previous owner never polished the guitar, changed its strings and was missing the Tele barrel style pickup selector tip. I completely polished the guitar before sending it to the local luthier for a setup and intonation job. I pulled it out of the case last week to play on it and phewwww, funky smelling guitar. I noticed the smell was coming from the pickguard, the bridge and the control plate. I'll have to open them up next week and clean everything per BCR Greg's advice. The dryer sheets in the guitar has helped the situation and the guitar is residing in its open guitar case, airing out, in my family room at the moment. I've been busy with work, rehearsals and I've got a gig this weekend. I won't be able to do work on it until next week. Guitar George

Steve Haynie Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I was talking archtops with a well known player and mentioned a vintage guitar on a prominent dealer's web site. The well known player said he had tried that guitar and it smelled like vomit. Apparently someone threw up on the guitar and the inside still had the smell. I would hate to spend thousands to have a guitar that smells like puke.
blackfbiv Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?...t=2,42194,40727see if you can find this around your parts.I put one of the big bags in my basement and holy scnikes, it really works great.(gotta stand right over the litter box to smell it- and I have a seriously great working sniffer)I'm guessing one of these little ones in that case (with the guitar in it) for a few days and it'll be like new...been meaning to get a couple more to throw in the car...Good luck...Dion
Craig Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I had a mandolin that smelled like mildew, and I never could get rid of the stink. It got stolen, came back worse smelling, and finally I sold it. A shame, really.
