straightblues Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 It is time to clear out some stuff. Here are some of my amps that I would like to sell. I have additional pictures of all of them, shoot me an email and I will send you pics. Here is the list. Marshall JCM800 50 Watt Combo Amp. This amp is from 1987. The model number 4210. It is a 1X12” combo with the stock Celestion G12M-70 speaker. It is a two channel amp w/ Reverb. It comes with a foot switch that switches between channels and turns on the reverb. This is the combo version of the famous Model 2205 JCM800 50 Watt Head. It has a very good clean channel and that classic Marshall Crunch as well. This amp could easily run one or two 4X12 cabinets. It was recently serviced and is ready to rock!!! It has a new set of Grove Tube EL34 power tubes. Asking price is $675 Scumbag (Scumback) Gibson Amp This is a vintage Gibson Discoverer Amp (1959 or 1960) that was completely reworked by Southbay Amp Works. http://www.southbayampworks.com/index.html . It now has a lot more gain on tap, but cleans up well with the guitar volume. Southbay Ampworsk is not selling these anymore. This was converted about 4 years ago. They sold for about $1,500 then. It has 2 6v6 power tubes (Vintage Grey Plate GE), 5y3 (vintage RCA) and a 12AX7 (vintage Tungsram). Switchable between 4, 8 and 16 ohms with an extra jack for an external speaker cabinet. This has a 12” Scumbag ceramic speaker. I would guess that it is putting out about 15 watts or so. Original Gibson cabinet was recovered by Scumbag as part of the conversion. Tweed is in excellent shape. Asking price is $975. Dr. Z Carmen Ghia combo Dr. Z Carmen Ghia 1 x 12 combo (blonde tolex). This is a loud 18 watt amp. It features 2 EL84 power tubes, two preamp tubes and a 5y3 rectifier. It is a simple amp with only two knobs. But don’t let that full you, this thing gets a wide range of tones. It is in very good condition and is ready to play. I can ship it with either a stock Celestion Vintage 30 speaker or a Weber Blue Dog. If you want both speakers, add $75. straightblues Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 Here is some more info on the Scumbag amp from Jim at Southbay Ampworks.A little info on the amp here! This is a dual 6V6 single ended Class A amp, which was completely rebuilt from the chassis up. It was built by Jim Foote of MusicWorks with all new parts except the chassis and the power supply. It's about 12w clean at a volume of 3, 15w at 5 and around 18w at 8. It's very much like a Marshall in terms of tone and gain in a very small package. It has a large 15w Hammond chassis with a 4/8/16 ohm output via a dual speaker jack and switch.I put on all new Fender tweed cloth for this cabinet, and a custom handle logo and Scumbag logo on the front. It's a cathode biased amp that doesn't require biasing, so you can mix and match tubes at will, the tubes do not have to be matched. The amp stays clean till about 3 on the volume, then after that it starts to produce more gain & volume, getting fatter sounding as it is turned up louder.A 1/8" thick garolite board with eyelets is how the circuit board was built, the same as is used in Dumble amps. Dumble played a small part in refining the tone of this amp, and making it ultra quiet with input on specific build/parts input (which I'm not going to divulge) to achieve it's superior tone qualities.Basically this amp is loud enough to play small gigs at, and I still own three of them in various 1x12 and 2x12 combos. The mods done to it were priced at $800, plus the original amp, the tweed recover and the Scumback speaker, bringing it's overall cost to around $1500 or more. The amp can also use a GZ34/5AR4 rectifier tube to increase the volume and overall clean headroom. Hope this helps those interested in the amp!
