I'm looking for a reasonably priced IPOD docking station/speaker setup for my 15 yo daughter. Something under $80 preferred.

Anyone have experience with these? Thanks in advance.

If she has a stereo, you can buy a cable to hook up the ipod to the stereo, and it'll sound nice, that's what I did. You need a mini jack end to an RCA cable end. I got mine for about $10.

Scott, Sonic1974 is talking about something like this:

You can also get more sophisticated with a docking station that recharges the iPod, like this:

Does your daughter already have a stereo or boombox with a stereo input in the form of RCA plugs or a stereo mini-plug?

Otherwise, Overstock.com has a selection here. Of these, the best in your price range--if you can live with a refurb--is probably the Klipsch iGroove SXT:

And make sure you check with Amazon. You can get something from them by Altec-Lansing, JBL, or LogiTech in your price range.

These sound pretty good. Decent bass for their size. ihome $29, 50 off

Thanks for the input guys. We decided to go a different direction for Xmas, but her birthday is mid-January so I will be in the market in another week or so.

Any more advice, keep it coming!

I would second the motion to add to an existing stereo if possible. The audio dock that JohnnyB posted certainly looks like a winner. Just make sure if you do get a unit, that it is compatible with her current ipod/iphone. Some of the older units won't charge (or even fit) the newer ipods/iphones. A dock could connect to nearly any system that has some sort of external input options. (Aux, Video, Tape deck, etc.)

What kind of stereo, or music listening setup does she currently have? I'm sure more options could be listed with a make and model or (if that's not visible) a photo of her current system.

Back in the market. She does not have a stereo at all in her room, so this unit would be it.

Thanks for the tips JohnnyB. I have been looking at the JBLs. I'll check out the Altecs too.

We have the Bose docking station and (though we're note Bose devotees) actually like it quite a bit.

I bought my daughters each a Nana this last summer. We wanted to get an alarm clock for my 8 year old in the fall and the Sony Dream Machine is a neat contraption. it's a docking station for an iPod, has a clock/alarm/radio function as well.

They are $100 at Best Buy and Target.

My daughter really likes hers.

Good luck.

If it is the one with a cd, then I got my wife one for her birthday. 12th of December. She loves audio books and it works great for that. Nice sound with voices. Decent for music but weak bass response. Sam's Club has them here for $79. I bought the ihomes on sale at Radioshack for my daughter and son, 12 and 9. And they are very happy with them. Good volume, decent bass and at the sale price of $29 too good to pass up. Back on sale for $39 now.
