atquinn Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Also, trem-spaced pickups fit many set-neck guitars (like LP's) better than standard-spaced pickups nowadays. It's 99.99% cosmetic anyway.-Austin

I think the box says sh-4 1NCYeah, if it's an SH then it's standard spacing. But like I said, trem-spaced pickups actually fit lots of traditionally standard-spaced pickups better nowadays.-Austin
Mike Lee Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Yeah, if it's an SH then it's standard spacing. But like I said, trem-spaced pickups actually fit lots of traditionally standard-spaced pickups better nowadays.-AustinYep. Hamer even used the TB-4 on the Sunburst Archtop (precursor to the Studio) to get the pole spacing just right, but they were a tight fit in the pickup rings. Sometime around 1994 they switched to the regular spaced JB. I don't think you can get a covered TB-4 so if you want the vintage look there's no choice but a regular JB.You can always replace the TOM bridge saddles, adjust the string spacing, and notch the new saddles. Hamer spaces the strings just a little wider than Gibson.

atquinn Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 ...I don't think you can get a covered TB-4...You can indeed get covered trembucker pickups and aftermarket covers for them.-Austin
bubs_42 Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Yep, you can get covers for it if its a TB. I put a JB Tremspaced bucker in my 81 V and the poles line up perfectly over the strings. Best sounding pickup I put in the guitar and I did it because it was at the time the only pup I had laying around. No need to change it, its perfect.
Skeeter Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 As luck would have it, this afternoon I opened up a '93 Special FM I purchased recently and was surprised to find a 4 conductor TB-4 in the bridge. I've only played the guitar a handful of times and never noticed the difference in spacing. No idea if it's original but it's a very neat installation.
