belikerick Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Just got back from seeing the Kenny Wayne Shephard Band in Boulder and I've got to say that guy can wring the neck off a strat like nobody I've ever seen. (never saw SRV btw). Great show - made me embarassed that I owned guitars. He actually played a LP on a couple songs, including a rendition of "oh well". Ended the night with a big Hendrix extravaganza while playing a strat with the patented left handed neck to get that true Hendrix sound (really great sound, not being sarcastic ). 'nuff said

And yes, I've seen Kenny multiple times and know him through a rhythm section I used to work for...he's pretty darned good though. Glad you had a good time...I hear he's doing a lot better now that he's dealt with some of his addiction problems.

I was also lucky enough to see SRV a little more than a few years ago, no need to say what a thrill that was... so I took playing bass after that

tomteriffic Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Don't know what Scott's up to these days, but he spent a fair amount of time playing "second guitar" in Buddy Guy's band. Buddy would break a string and walk offstage and you'd never know he was gone. Scott's a fabulous player.

The guy can play his ass off but dang he shoulda just put on a hat and called it a tribute, I did see SRV back in the day. This new record I guess they're trying to go in more of a straight up rawk thang with Kenny singing the new stuff, at least they kept Noah in the band to sing the old stuff. How was the drumming? Bogie's an old NC homey of mine.

As with most folks with supreme talent, he's a bit cocky, but I dig his playing. Scott Holt played second guitar to Buddy Guy for 10 years before going out solo. He's got 4 records out and another on the way. The sound samples on his site aren't very representative to me, but I highly recommend the album "Dark of The Night" and "Chipped Front Tooth". I've got a version of Voodoo Chile he recorded with Mitch Mitchell & Billy Cox laying around here somewhere...dude can play. I played with him at his gig in Birmingham this past Friday...I do his website on the side and also work with O'Brien amps which he uses.

Michael_ Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 I saw KWS in Charlotte sometime last year, I belive he was with Double Trouble, but he still had that one guy doing most of the singing. Amazing Voodoo Chile SR closer, and really great renditions of some blues classics and SRV tunes. Also, the LOUDEST show I have ever been to.
