BCR Greg Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 So the opening band doesn't show for the New York Dolls gig on Wednesday nite. They were providing the bass rig since the Dolls were using rented backline and driving in in a van. I called Chris Matthes and he promptly brought his Trace Elliot Bass rig for Sammy Yaffa to use, thus SAVING THE DAY.I am sick as hell, so no pics yet, but credit where credit is due. Thanks to the HFC, the sold out crowd got thier money's worth. Thanks, Chris. Now where's that Robitussen.....
cmatthes Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Always happy to help out anybody here whenever and wherever I can. That Trace never sounded better than it did with Sammy blasting that battered Jazz Bass through it!That was an unbelievably good show, and we had the best seats in the house all night from either the side of the stage or the dressing room balcony. Steve Conti and Syl Sylvain really tore it up - definitely brought the best out of an assortment of LPs and a Black Falcon - first time I've ever seen a Paul "walked" across the stage like that (more like "bounced & kicked"...).It was great meeting the Dolls, hanging with Nitebob (always fun!), talking to Ronni from KIX, the guys from Voodoo Blue (just whisked in from the Warped Tour show at Nissan and STILL energetic). Thanks especially to Greg for the call and the hookup. My son and I had a GREAT time.
Jack C Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Very cool. I try my best to help out whenever I get a call asking me to loan my gear to rock legends.
Moose Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Very cool. I try my best to help out whenever I get a call asking me to loan my gear to rock legends. Don't laugh too hard. A lot of these "legends" are just regular guys who happened to be innovative and make something new when the world needed to hear it. When it comes down to it, many are good guys who are doing what they can to make a few bucks playing the music they love, which isn't too far away from the rest of us. It does hold true to form, though. Good folks tend to go way out of their way to help other musicians, and it almost always comes back to them at some later date. I'm sure Greg could be in other communities and have no problems finding a rig to borrow, and more than a few would have little problem finding help if they found themselves wandering through the wilds of Pennsylvania.
elduave Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 I predict that on the basis of CM's agreeability, he will become the next bass player for the Dolls and we will all tote HIS rig when he comes to our town to help us party it down.
BCR Greg Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 A few pics, more as I get time.... The saviors, Chris and Michael Matthes. Steve Conte plays my Burst. Few from my work station... Brian Delaney, the kick ass drummer. Brian Koonin, keyboards. And the Mysterious Nitebob at the Front of House..... He's stealthy, that boy is. I was supposed to work this weekend, but my daughter Heather turns 13 on Saturday so I begged off. As I left on Wed nite, David Johansen made a point of telling me to wish her a Happy Birthday. Cool guy.
