dboy66 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 What brand of switch does Hamer use, and where can I find a replacement tip? I always thought that Hamer and gibson both used switchcraft, but the standard Gibson tips are too short. I'm lookind for amber and cream. Thanks, Dboy
atquinn Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 You can get Hamer switch tips in any color you want as long as you want black. Sad but true. If you should happen to stumble on a source for any that are exactly like the black ones other than color, make sure you buy a few hundred in each color and then you can sell them on the forum to fund your retirement -Austin
mirrorimij Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I believe if the guitar was to get a shorter cream color tip they would just cut the shaft down with a cutoff tool on a Dremel.
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I put a cream tip on my Newport. It is a tad shorter than the original black, but honestly it looks just fine. For it to matter, you'd have to A) use a magnifying glass from close up, You'd have to know that it "should" look different. Just buy the original Gibson cream tip and put it on. If you really can't stand the few extra threads showing at the bottom, cut it off as mirrorimij suggests.
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Here's the Gibson tip on the Newport. Click HERE for the ultra-jumbo version and you'll still have a hard time seeing a difference worth worrying about.
Caddie Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I put a chrome switch tip on my eclipse just to make everything chrome. Anal? Yes. Cool? tres cool! I may have a couple around here somewhere, if i recall correctly i had to buy a 5-pack. And again if i recall correctly i bought from allparts or stewmac or one of those on line parts guys. I'll rummage thru my drawers, see if there are any switch tips in there. Amber, cream, black, chrome, and others are possible.Dude do you really require a precision fit? Its a switch tip fer godz sake. caddie
