  2. Finally made the pilgrimage!!! Alas, not many beyond this fine group would understand..... Amazing town in a fantastic country. Highly, highly recommended!
  3. That is a beauty! If only it were sparkle orange.......
  4. Serial: Lately, life has seriously conspired against me hanging out in the forum much, and I missed this super cool post. I'm definitely up for a signed book plate. I hope I havn't missed the bus. I'm ordering a book immediately. dboy
  5. My guitar made the trip and apparently had one hell of a good time ----- my wallet has also made the trip a few times...... and I'm still waitin' for my shirt!!!
  6. Wife's birthday, I'm out. And I even learned how to plan since the last jam.
  7. +1 Badass pedigree, cool person, great player, enviable tone, always a class act.
  8. Yes. Indeed they can. But then the screw holes for the mounting rings do not line up, and there is no 'wiggle room' for the pup itself or the ring.
  9. Awright. I've got an '82 Checkerboard that is, ah, shall we say "challenged", in the finish department. Plays like a dream though. I hoped to drop some Phat Cats in (because I love the tone) and make a few inspirational aesthetic (chrome) mods, however I discovered that covered pups do not fit in the existing routes. Apparently, an uncovered pup has an ever so slightly smaller footprint than whatever Hamer was thinking back in '82. I can wiggle the the covered pup in, but the mounting screws will not align with any ring. My first thought was that I need to call Uncle Greg, but now I'm thinking that maybe I should leave well enough alone. This Special plays badass, but just looks squirrely. Should I leave it alone? Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.
  10. My crazy Polish mother named me after her favorite Irish song, "Dannyboy", hence "dboy" has been my net handle in various permutations since '96. And, well, '66 was a good year.
  11. Had the factory install a BK Mule set in my custom order Studio Custom Goldtop.
  12. Gents- I'm planning on joining the group on Saturday and am signed up for the lunch event. Unfortunately, Friday for me is a no-go due to work. I've been following this thread, but I think I've missed a few of the more mundane bits, and was just hoping to ask a few naive questions: What time do we meet for the lunch and what is the address? Does anyone have plans for the time between the lunch event and Excalibur? I'm open for the entire day, but unfortunately have not met any of the other members and will be sort of flying solo during the day. My wife will be joining us at Excal, and would be happy to hang with any of the other spouses. If there is any grunt work to be done at Excal, I'm good for that. However, I broke a couple of ribs last week and am still a bit uncomfortable. I'm way too much of a hack to participate in the jam, but wouldnt mind bringing a guitar or two down to show off and let the others play. Is that an ok idea or stupid? Is there any other gear that I can assist with? Is anyone planning on bringing anything to get signed or would that be just effen rude? And lastly, the last time I looked at the song list I didnt see anything from the Pretenders. I just thought it would be so cool to see someone from the HFC get busy with something from the first album because James Honeyman Scott is one of my favorite Hamer players (rip).
  13. plans to head back home to detroit are now cancelled.
  14. Hear, hear. Thanks MCChris.....always the voice of reason.
  15. +1 on picking the date ASAP -1 on the suburbs - thats just lame. If anyone needs help with hotels, I can offer suggestions that might be cheaper.
  16. Jerry Cantrell Signature Rampage by G&L --- new model by an old company, quality, USA, etc.
  17. Hey, thanks to all for the great info. I'm getting the feeling though that refinning is waaaaay too expensive for the guitar in question. I mean, checkerboards are going for what, about $400 clams these days? Sheesh! I think I may be having a yard sale soon. DR
  18. yeah, sorry about that. I really didnt give you too much to go on there. I was thinking about refinishing an old special that has a pretty beaten red finish.
  19. What is a reasonable expectation for the price tab of a complete refin? Thanks, DR
