HI! .. I ask some question please let me use this topic to ask about question . (I dont want start topic with little question) . The day before my friends come to visit. He tried to play my Cali. He was extremely satisfied, especially fingerboard. He asked me fingerboard is made from what? I told him " rosewood " . What kind of this rosewood ? I cant answer him. WHAT KIND OF CALI'S ROSEWOOD ? (beauty & smooth feeling) . thanks...

Tell him its Jakartan Rosewood. The minerals in Jakartan soil evolve from volcanic ash resulting in mind altering tone. Tell him that Paul Hamer & Jol Dantzig bought one cord (face cord that is) of Jakartan Rosewood when they were in high school. (true guitar visionaries in the mold of Bill Gates & Steve Jobs) They kiln dried it for 6 years before using it to build.......thru neck guitars. These guitars are pre 4-digit and rarely come up for sale. Kinda like Sasquatch & Nessie, they are indeed elusive. No eBay on these babies. Private sales only, same as documented authentic Stradivarius violins. The rumor is that Bill Kaman owns one. And of course HamStd owns one.

Your Cali has Jakartan Rosewood from that extremely small build lot. (some say less than ten guitars) It was a test unit to help them test tonality, stability and marketablity of a bolt on Jakarta. It was about this time in Hamer history that the love of dive bombing, big hair band, fluorescent guitars with lighted dot side markers fell to the way side. :D:D

The going rate for these Tone Monsters? shhhh...

Its my duty to stick a fork in this Jakarta Rosewood turkey that I created before you or someone else gets taken advantage of.

When I wrote the "Jakarta Rosewood" response I was trying to be a wise guy. There is no such thing as Jakarta Rosewood. If you need info on guitar woods the best source that I know of for body, neck & fingerboard woods is here http://www.warmoth.com:80/Pages/CustomNeck.aspx .

I apologize if I caused any problems or inconvenience for you or your friend.
