SteveE9C6 Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Hey folks... My name is Steve Stallings and I am the owner/webmaster of the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum. I also love electrics and have a pretty fair collection.I'm totally new here and don't know if it's ok to ask about the import models. I just received a Hamer off of ebay that doesn't quite fit the current model XT descriptions. The guitar has a carved mildly flamed gold maple cap with creme binding. The hardware is all gold plated. The pups are covered Duncan Design. I thought I was getting a SATF... and it well may be an older version of this. The SN is 980XXXX made in Korea. Is this just an older version of the SATF? Are Korean Hamers allowed here?Hey... thanks a lot.Steve Stallings
cmatthes Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Steve:Welcome! Imports are welcome here too, by all means. It does sound like a MIK guitar - do you have a picture? Unfortunately, the import serial numbers do little or nothing to help figure out things about a particular instrument like the USA numbering scheme does.
SteveE9C6 Posted March 10, 2005 Author Posted March 10, 2005 Here is a link to the ebay pictures. I'm pretty sure it is a SATF... probably several years old. The current specs don't have gold hardware and I think the pups are open.
SteveE9C6 Posted March 21, 2005 Author Posted March 21, 2005 Y'now... the more I play this, the better I like it. I did a setup on it and new strings and it just sings. Amazing little guitar.
BTMN Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Import Hamers can be very nice. I recently bought a Standard import that has been sweetened up with USA Duncans and Sperzels. It rocks. I also have an older Sunburst that I enjoy a ton. Welcome aboard. If you really want to lose your mind, and your wallet, over a Hamer check out the USA version of your guitar. Here is the link at Hamer that appears to be your guitar without the Gold covers. http://hamerguitars.com/?fa=detail&mid=401&sid=185 Better yet here is the USA version. http://hamerguitars.com/?fa=detail&mid=392&sid=180
JohnnyB Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Hey, that's a very nice one and your winning bid is an excellent price, especially with that nice case. I guess that would be an SATF -- Studio ArchTop Flame model, I think. The first of these said "Slammer Series" under the Hamer logo; this is the very next generation from the late '90s from Korea and they are very nice with some pretty good woods, excellent build quality, and tone and playability that exceed the expectations at that price. There are lots of guys here who have mouth-watering Hamer-USA collections who also have an MIK Hamer or two in the mix cuz they're so good for the money.
