morningstar Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Is there any way to force Firefox to save a password for a website AFTER I failed to OK it on the very first visit? Also why is it that Firefox sometimes doesn't even ask if it is OK to save a password?Whatever the cure is, it is not jumping out at me.Thanksmorningstar
veatch Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Go to [Tools]->[Options...]In the Options window, select the Security tab.Make sure "Remember passwords for sites" is checked.Click on [Exceptions...]Remove the IP or URL of the site for which you want to have the password asked. (Or just select [Remove all], but then you'll be asked again for every site you visit...)You *may* need to exit FireFox and relaunch it. If you go to the site and it still does not ask, hit <Ctl><F5> to force a full refresh. That *should* do it. If not, sorry. :/

Some sites, especially finance sites disallow the saving of passwords for security reasons.
moozak Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 everyone has their opinion on this... and you can do what you want... but my personal opinion is: it's not good to "save" passwords anywhere anytime... if you are saving them... make sure you have plenty of antivirus software on tap to not only prevent viruses from infecting your computer... but to keep them from stealing your passwords... which they indeed can do. if you're not protected... i would suggest these "free" tools:1) zone alarm... it's a great firewall tool and if you do get a virus you can literally shut the internet access off2) avast... another great tool and runs well with zone alarm. instantly blocks you from malicious sites and throws up a message telling you why. avast can also scan your hard drive looking for cookies and malware.3) SuperAntiSpyware... great tool for scanning your hard drive... which you need to do on occasion to keep things clean.there are of course other great free tools and MANY other great tools that are not free... which i also use.i'm constantly helping out my friends who get into trouble with their computers and almost always they: 1) save passwords 2) don't have any anti-virus protection 3) stay signed into facebook (facebook is not the place to be to keep your hard drive clean) 3) visit a lot of chat rooms, which in itself isn't all that bad... but i sure wouldn't do it unprotected. if you don't believe me, sign into yahoo chat (or any other) and then scan your hard drive afterward... and 4) forward a LOT of emails... jokes, misc crap from people... pictures... etc. i personally don't open ANY crap mail that's been forwarded to me by my friends or otherwise (unless i absolutely know what it is or i'm expecting it from someone)... that stuff has landed on everyone's computer on the forward list... most of which is people with unprotected computers. oh, and don't think for one second that because you're using firefox that you're immune from infection (as a lot of people think)... you are not.of course, if you are computer savvy then you have little need to worry because i'm sure you're already on top of it.
gorch Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 ... but my personal opinion is: it's not good to "save" passwords anywhere anytime... +1 my personal opinion too.Check remember login for forums frequently visited like the HFC for convenience. Anything else is classified "forbidden".
morningstar Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Hmm food for thought. Thanks!morningstar
