Hamerican Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Hi there-Just picked up a 1979 Hamer Sunburst, but pickups are not original. Pretty sure the originals were Seymour Duncans, but does anyone know the exact stock PUPs ? Thanks.
bruce919 Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Org. Pickup were custom wound for Hamer. Dimarzio/Hamer PAFs.
seeker Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 They were acutally Dimarzios.Others can chime in on exact model, but wouldn't be surprised if he made them specifically for Hamer.
HamStd Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 The pickups should be dimarzio PAF's, zebra (black and white coil) in the neck position and double creme in the bridge position. By '79 they most likely would have the black plastic lead cover with a black/white and ground wires.Peter.
Hamerican Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 Thanks, all- Seems like DiMarzio PAFs are the way to go- are current PAF models the same as the ones used in 79 ? According to the DiMarzio website the PAF was introduced in '74, so I'm assuming that it has remained the same and any modifications to the PAF have been produced with new names or modifiers to the PAF name.
BCR Greg Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 The bridge pickup was a stock PAF, the neck pickup was slightly underwound. They were wired out of phase, so that when both were on, the common frequencies were canceled out, ala Peter Green's Burst.Original bridge pickups abound, for some reason the neck pickups seem to be hard to locate.
