backinit Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I'm looking for a spicy noiseless P90 pickup and not looking to spend a ton of dough.I know on the cheaper end we have GFS and Dimarzio. Is there another maker in the $40 - $60 range?
atquinn Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I need a little clarification; do you want it to sound like a humbucker or a P90? -Austin
backinit Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 I need a little clarification; do you want it to sound like a humbucker or a P90? -AustinThat's a good question. I would say anywhere from a hot p90 to humbucker sound. In the Dimarzio line I'm looking at DP154 Deluxe Plus. If I want to get a single coil sound I guess I can split it.
burningyen Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 A bit above your range, but I've heard very good things about these:http://www.manliusguitar.com/quietgoat.html
atquinn Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 It wouldn't hurt to look into minihumbuckers; they'll fit into a soapbar route and Dimarzio, Duncan, etc. have lots of different models. I like the Dimarzio Minihumbucker/Hot Minihumbucker combo myself. -Austin

I have several of those DiMarzios hanging around that need a good home. Not sure exactly which ones they are, but I will post what they are when I get home tonight

Not sure exactly which ones they are, but I will post what they are when I get home tonight Hmmmmm...... I just looked through my pickup drawer and found a DiMarzio DP209 P-90 Super Distortion with black cover and an unlabeled P-90 stack that is most likely a Duncan. And, as proof of the "too many guitars, too few brain cells syndrome," I found just the boxes from a DiMarzio DP164BK DLX-90 with black cover and a DP169BK Virtual P-90 with black cover. I had these two removed from my Vanguard and replaced with a Rio Grande Bluesbar/Jazzbar set so these are probably floating around in a Rio Grande box that I haven't noticed or (God forbid) in the neck pocket of the wrong case. I'll find them in the next few days.

backinit Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Well, I might be interested if you go decide to part with one. I went with a GFS soapbar 180 and I'm having a tough time bonding with it. It seems to be quite sensitive to height.
