price33 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Is the hamer in this Billy Idol video the first single cutaway model? (pre-monaco) Full detail at 3:42
cmatthes Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 That's the Mark Younger Smith guitar. Not really an "official" model, but they did make a handful of them. They built other single-cut guitars and basses before that, but other than the B-12A and TLE, none were catalog instruments. The first true catalog single cut guitar was the TLE in the mid-80s.

marcnorth Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 There's some good shots of it in this one. Billy's singing sounds a little off key to me.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1DewIW0LKM...feature=related
morningstar Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Greg Giafinakis (sp?) had a purple Younger Smith (and a Watson) at a So Cal Hamer Jam as while back. Pamita was there too, and she brought her drummer from Betty Blowtorch. The guitar was awesome. Real comfy and natural like a Chapparal. I have a picture somewhere. I will post it if I can find it.morningstar
HamStd Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Mark is a really cool guy and a great player. There are four MYS models made for him. Two white ones {one with the single coil and Humbucker and this one with the sustainiac, both were used on tour and in the videos}, a black one with white binding (given to his roadie, but it was stolen and hasn't surfaced) and the Silver sparkle one (also used on the Rock in Rio show and other tours, it was his main player). There are two more single cuts, one made for Jack Frost (purple flame top that Mobster use to own) and the other made for Steve Brown (from the band Trixter, which has sort of a MYS meets Scarab look. Note the straplocks courtsey of Home Depot... ). Here are a few closer up shots if YouTube isn't your thing. Enjoy Peter

They were very nice guys.
