12 string question

Citrus

Question

Posted

Rics have the regular string first, then the octave string, all others seem to have the octave string first

Is it a big difference in the sound? Is this what helps to give the Ric its distinctive tone??

I believe that is correct. And FWIW, the Newport 12 is strung the same way.

You are correct fror the most part. However, I have a Pacifica 12 whose bridge is set up for the low string first. It does help the lower string predominate a little.

That, and a lot of compression.

... and a lot of maple. The Newport 12 has a lot of maple as well, including--like the Ric--a routed maple hollow (or semihollow) body.
