Mindseyes Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Played it at rehearsal tonight with the band threw a VHT 2/50/2 into a Tone Tubby loaded Mesa Boogie Recto 4X12 and all I got's to say is WOW!!!!!Even my other guitar player who hates anything new said it was the first "modeler" that he's played that responded like a real tube amp<-------That really surprised me coming from him!!!Every other modeler I have tried has just fallen apart in the mix when I got them in with the band but the AXII just sat in the mix right were I wanted it to......Impressed I am!I did something just for fun before everyone got to my place for practice, I ran my recto into half my cab and the AxeII into the other half with a ABY switch to switch between the two I be damned that after about 5-10 min. of tweaking I had a tone that was just about identical to the recto coming out of the AxeII, when my guitar player buddy got here I played a little game of guess the real amp and he was just shocked at the tone I had coming out of this little 1's and 0's box.I havent spent much time building clean tones so the few songs were I use clean sounds left me a little disappointed but im pretty sure I can get something useable out of it, to be fair we only have two songs were I use a clean tone so it just has not been a priority at this time to work on them... I have a gig in a few weeks so I guess that will be the final test for this thing for me but as of now Im really enjoying the heck out of it .......
burningyen Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Very nice. It seems that using a tube power amp into a guitar cab makes most tube purists a lot more comfortable with modelers. I'm sure you'll be able to get clean sounds out of it that float your boat.
svl Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 The clean tones are in there. Took a bit of noodling with mine, but once I found the right tweaks I was more than pleased. My big test was a week ago when I played out and ran it strictly through the mains for the first time (no power amp, no cabs). I was completely blown away, as were the crowd and my band.
silentman Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I'm on the list for an Axe FX II. I have an Ultra right now that's great. I really want to be able to go direct and I'm finally getting to the point where I'm happy with my tone that way.
svl Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I'm using the Ultra. It was unbelievably stellar direct, and I was able to pull all the controlled feedback I wanted thru the monitors (and the mains when I was out front).
Armitage Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I've been thinking of getting one, and just going into an old high current stereo amp into quality stereo speakers for playing in the basement...
