no, not a new band!

I popped the tendon on my left ring finger over the weekend. It is the tendeon that keeps the tip of your finger from drooping. Actually, without holding the rest of your finger steady, most people ( unless you are double jointed) can't bend the tip alone.

Anyway, I'm out for 6 weeks. Finger in a splint

Anyone ever go that long without playing?

Anyone ever have this

Damn! You didn't even mention the word pain and I'm cringing like I'm at the dentist.

Six Weeks? I think I'd buy a lap steel. Muting will be sketchy but it'd be something to do. Maybe wrap split in soft cloth so it'll mute behind the slide.

Never had that one, but had a busted knuckle on my left hand pinky that had me in a splint for 6 weeks. The splint was on both the pinky and ring finger.

Ask for an aluminum splint and get creative about how you tape it on there. That's how I learned to play slide. ;)

OUCH! .....

Time to work on those slide licks.....

I took a "break from guitar about 3 years ago when my last "major" band called it quits.. Didn't play for 2 months.... was a good break I came back recharged... and with newer better ideas....

But like I said.... you could get the ol slide out and work on that....

Good luck!

open chord and slide. Push a round toothpick under the strings at the nut to raise the action a wee bit.

Not that long ago I injured my finger on some machinery (don't ask) went to the ER to get it stiched and found out about 5weeks later ,when it wasn't doing as well as I hoped that, it was broken as well. All the time I was trying to play and couldn't move it the way it needed to go. It took almost 3 mos to heal. Of course now I have an excuse for my poor playing ;)

Arnie, my knuckle didn't set straight and my pinky sticks out at an angle from the rest of my fingers on my left hand now, so I have to take a sort of 'double back' approach when using that finger. That's MY excuse and, by Gawd, I'm stickin' to it! ;)

Citrus, take good care of that thing. My dinking with the splint is what caused the pinky to set wrong. Hope you're back picking soon.

Hey Citrus,

Don't feel too bad. I injured my left middle finger about two weeks ago while shopping at Lowe's Hardware for a ladder. I was trying out those folding ladders, released one of the sections and it slammed my left middle finger. I now have a fracture on the tuft of my left middle finger, have to wear a splint and heal up for about 4 to 6 weeks. I had to end up cancelling one of my upcoming shows, but what can I do? I just listen to cool music, do other things that I can physically do and attend to things in my life that need to be taken cared of. I'm not worried about anything except getting healed up.
