New Amp Day -- Jet City JCA50H

Took the plunge and bought a new Jet City 50 watt head (JCA50H) for $499. It arrived day before yesterday and I gotta say, it's a great sounding rock amp that "almost" does the BRootALZ. Actually, it can get downright gnarly with a clean boost in front of the gain channel. Of course, this amp is based on Soldano circuitry and while I've never played one of those, for $500 it's an incredibly versatile amp. I'm changing out the tubes to something better but even stock it sounds pretty good IMO. I'm using a matching Jet City 412 cab.

Might consider checking the bias after the new tubes. I have been told they are set pretty cold.

Enjoy! I love my little JCA20H.

I already biased up the stock power tubes as I was told the same thing: cold from the factory. Definitely made an improvement already. I ordered RFTs for the preamp tubes but am undecided about the 6L6s...may go with SEDs.

Seems like kind of a large amp for a guy that's done with bands.

I've said that before...many times. <_< Right now, I'm just "gearing up" so I can go jam with some other guys. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Hey jisham,

Congratulations on getting the Jet City amp head. Glad to hear you're happy with the tone of the amp and the performance/price ratio is quite good. You'll love the tone of that amp. If you're into amp mods, you should check out Dave Friedman's amp mods for the Jet City amps.I own a Soldano Astroverb 16 amp myself and it's high gain goodness in a low wattage package..

Soldano Atomic 16 here, I have always dug the Soldano Amplifiers and the Jet City Amps are cool amps for the Money. I keep kicking the tire on a HotRod 50 + and one day i'll buy one darnit. :)

Now that I've had a few days with the Jet City, I can confirm it's pretty kick ass. It's pretty versatile and do everything except (almost) true brutal "recto" stuff. Amazing. I can still get a pretty aggressive metal tone using a Maxon OD808 as a boost in front of the gain channel. I changed to stock power tubes to SED Winged C 6L6s biased fairly hot, and replaced four of the five preamp tubes with NOS RFTs, which smoothed out the top end sizzle somewhat.

I'm completely blown away the amp head only cost $499. Unreal and it's seems built like a tank. I put a TC Electronic Nova System in the loop which sounds great as well.
