Brentrocks Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 A couple of the bullseye grovers on my 78 sunburst feel a little "dry" how do i lubricate them? and also not hurt the tuners? thanks in advance!
murkat Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Do not pull the bulls eye caps.if you feel you must do this...remove tuner(s) from headstock.remove buttons, washers, etc.unscrew button shaft from housing.clean old lube off and replace it.re insert, rebuild.
Andrew Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 As he says. I think a little molybdenum grease, like that for the CV joints of drive shafts, would give the best protection for vintage parts.
a.bandini Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Brent, I don't know what the best type of grease to put in there would be, but consider a good quality bicycle "white" grease. I've had good luck with that in other mechanical applications, but I'll defer to the experts on what would work best.
Disturber Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I used fishing reel grease/lubrication. I figured those reels got internal parts that work pretty hard, and they are abused by fresh water, salt water what have you. So that grease got to be good. The old Grovers work like a charm now, no problemo for five years at least.
