GuitarDoyle Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Hi, I have had the Rio BBQ/Texas in for about a week in one of my LPs and they sound very good!! Thick and full, with pulled back highs! In my one guitar I could use a pickup similar to the BBQ but maybe a touch brighter or with more cut. Is the Greg Voodoo wind in this category? Anyone able to shed some light on this one? Thanks.
Guest Mike Lee Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I don't know about the Gregwind, but the Duncan C5 seems to fit your requirements. In another thread, it was said that the BBQ and C5 are similar. I've tried both in the same guitar and found the C5 brighter. Sounds like a hotter PAF.
GuitarDoyle Posted March 13, 2005 Author Posted March 13, 2005 Okay, thanks man. I am grabbing a C-5 from my buddy this week so I'll give a tone report. He said it has deep, tight lows, pulled back (natural) mids, and vintage style highs. He said the midrange is a non issue assuming the guitar and amp have enough good mids. I may like it!He said it is almost the perfect LP style guitar pickup.
Brewmaster Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 +1 for the C5. I had one in a Studio and it was a match made in heaven. It didn't have the shrill highs that many JB's have and the tight low end and midrange was very musical.
kurtsstuff Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 I have voodoo wind.......i always get it after a day of drinking beer and eating pickled eggs....
silentman Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 I'm not sure how a Voodoo would sound in a mapletop. I have mine in an 82 special which is 99% mahogany, with the maple vaneer. Very articulate. Greg went out of his way to steer me from the Rios in the special. Call him and chat about both and I'm sure he will let you know more specifics.
belikerick Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 Greg, what the hell is going on with the guy in your avatar?
BCR Greg Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 He's some wannabe ninja that fails at a backflip and nearly knocks himself out in the process. He tries to continue with the 'chucks and guts himself, causing stability to be a memory. I have the whole video. At the end that guy's off camera and you hear the sensei telling him to relax and not try to get up. Kills me, it does.
GuitarDoyle Posted March 18, 2005 Author Posted March 18, 2005 Hell, I designed the pickup. CALL ME! Thanks Greg! I'll try to call you later today. Thanks man! I like the BBQ but not in all guitars - I have been swapping it around. I need more highs and a tighter bass for one of my axes and it sounds like the Duncan C-5 may be the ticket. I never grabbed that C-5 from my buddy!
