Newport Pro Korina which humbucker Size P90s to use?

I was close to buying the Artist P90 Korina that was recently for sale here, but I thought maybe I could get close to the sound, and save some cash, by putting phat cats or some other humbucker size P90 replacements in my Newport Pro Korina, ex. Fralin P92s,

Manulus Fat Goats, Lollar single coil for Humbucker pickups, etc.

Do you guys think I could get a similar sound to an Artist Korina P90, a semihollow vs. hollow Newport Korina with the pup swap?

What humbucker size P90 replacement pups do you recommend?

Would you recommend upgrading pots, caps, or wiring with the pup swap?

Lollar makes a tortoise covered P90 replacement, might look good with the tortoise binding on the Newport Korina, what do you think?

Any thoughts, information or suggestions you have would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

There's a Rio Big Bottom Bastard set for sale in this thread.

Wow. That's a good deal. I like Phat Cats, but I also like Rios, and they're hard to beat at that price. I can attest that Rio makes great P90s as I had a BarPack installed in an MIK Washburn thinline that transformed it into a serious instrument.

Vintage Vibe also offers the tort covers and I have a set of Pete's HB sized p90s inmy Artist Korina HB. Great pups that sound like, well P90s.....mine are a low wind on purpose. If you dig the SD ceramic P90s tell Pete what you are looking for and he will wind to those specs. Good prices too and I believe he is a Lollar protege.

I recommend the Harmonic Design Z-90s if you want it to sound like a 2-ton Strat. Amazing pickups.

I don't like the look of tortoise pickups, but that's just me.
