Hamer95USA Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Hello Adzer, I believe a member of the Jackson/Charvel messageboard owns an original Hamer USA KK Downing Mini V. He's located in Los Angeles and bought the Mini V from a former road crew member for Judas Priest. The guitar was shown on this website over a year ago. I don't know if we still have that thread on here. Does anybody know? Guitar George

edgar_allan_poe Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 Unfortunately the guitars were only made for KK. Hamer refused to make them for the public. Silly, if you ask me. Why bother having a public figure play your guitars if you wont make them for the average Joe.They wont make Tipton's "bowtie" Hamer either.
wgarces Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 I saw KK play one of those mini V's in '86 and a couple days after that I went to my guitar guy here in N.Y. and asked for one like KK's but larger. I didn't know Hamer made a Scepter model, I just wanted one like KK's but larger with a stop tailpiece, dot inlays, a 24 fret neck and a V shaped headstock. I also wanted the headstock color to match the body. So, this is what they made for me. Turns out that Hamer also made a Jeff Watson model (found that out just recently!) that had the V shaped headstock but the V opening on the guitar was arched. I think all Scepters and Jeff Watson models had boomerang inlays, too.Scepter_and_KK

Maybe KK and Titpton don't want every Priest fan have similiar guitars to their own one Or they just want to make something special for a change, something unique. Intresting link BTMN. Do you guys think that the KK mini V on that link is a real one? I mean if it's only used by KK himself and is a real one.. who would sell it with 500$? I bet that the parts itself cost more and if it's really used by KK, you could easily get more of it. Just doesn't make any sence. I could pay twice that price without a question if it would be real and in good condition!

It is in the books as an endorsee model for KK Downing. I can't see anyone faking that, you would have to know the exact specs. It just wouldn't be worth the time or money to do it.
BTMN Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 I think that guy came here and got the suprise of his life. Yes I belive he got it for $500. I am suprised KK "gave" it to his roadie who later sells it for $500. Stranger things have happened. I forget if the guy said when he bought it from the roadie in L.A.. I would speculate that it is a Mahogany body and Maple neck.
wgarces Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I'm curious about this V because KK is using it on one of Priest's current tours and supposedly all of his stage guitars are now built by ESP. I've never seen him use this one before. Did Hamer build this recently for him? I dig the maple neck. Me wants one! I think it's time to make a little phone call.......

I saw some posts on this website about some special requests that Hamer won't honor. Why would they do it for KK and not a paying customer? Albeit, I'm not a "rock star" but I have been a loyal Hamer user for many years. No ESP's here! What does a Jeff Watson model look like?
cmatthes Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Here's a Watson: This is Silentman's, so there are a few differences from the standard model (FT tailpiece v Sustainblock; Crown inlays v. no inlays, etc...) As far as Hamer making things for "Artist Accomodation Only", that has been their policy on a few guitars/features by special request from those artists. Tipton wants a guitar NOBODY else will own, so they built him one. KK wants his "Mini Scepter Vees", and he's the only one they would build them for. Nielsen wants his small b/w checkerboards, he gets 'em, and nobody else can (from Hamer). The Watson deal was because that was an actual model available for sale to the unwashed masses. The Maple-necked, Floyded Vector that KK plays now could probably be spec'ed out and ordered through your dealer of choice, but the "Mini Scepter Vee" or any Scepter Vee won't get done in this lifetime if I'm betting.
