Does anyone own one or have spent some time with one of these amps. I'm looking at the Divided By 13 LDW17/39, Fargen Mini Plex or the Splawn Street Rod to replace one of my Egnaters. Possible the Splawn Super Sport New. I can get a Street Rod to try out locally I just have to track down a buddy. The Divided by looks cool but I worried about the high end. Video wise it sounded a little like the DR Z SR65. That amp was brutally loud and unless you have flawless playing and get all your OD from pedals it just isn't your amp. The Fargen Mini Plex looks and sounds cool I just don't want to throw what money I have away you know. :)

I owned a Fargen Mini Plex for a spell. Nice sound at full bore (which is just enough volume to sit on the same level as a hard-hitting drummer) but the master volume was not on par with others I've had experience with, so not as good a sound at proverbial bedroom levels. Ultimately I sold it because it had a tad less gain than I prefer, and not enough headroom.

I hear you. I thought about going to a Rectoverb Rev2 but darn they are heavy and need to be really opened up to breath as well. I need it to do both pretty well. Low and Gigging Volumes, it looks like I may have a band rolling sooner than later. I have an old friend that just moved close to me and some co workers that are open for jams. I just want something made in the USA and that is going to last a lifetime. ;)

Divided By 13 is Swiss quality. Should last a lifetime too.

I should not be so narrow minded. As long as the amp can be serviced and parts are of good quality and rugged. I am a marshall sound kinda guy and have flirted with just getting a Jubilee but I know more options are out there.

Check out Phaez amps - handbuilt, PTP wired, custom options/upgrades available. Basically, kickass tone in a custom amp without breaking the bank.

I bought one of Randy's earliest DaisyCutter models (it was 14W 2 X EL84 version) yrs ago, but he's developed a lot of attractive circuit designs since then. The Asheville, based on a modded SLO100 design, looks like a lotta amp for the money, as does the SIBLY and a couple of others:

Randy's really like a pickup winder - tell what you're after and he builds it. Lotsa love for Phaez amps over at MLP forum, some on TGP too...

Oh, did I mention Valvetech? Just for keeping you open minded. US made, very versatile and solid as a rock. I love mine.

I remember him telling me he bought a Phaez amp a while back. Should ask him his opinion on 'em... ;)

Boy did I come to the right thread. I currently have a Mini Plex MKII and Splawn Competition, and have owned an LDW.

So my thoughts.

LDW had GREAT cleans and nice overdrive, but with the 2x12 greenback cab tended to be loose on the low end. I like a really tight crunchy amp and even at high volume didn't really get it with the LDW.

Splawn is very tight and crunchy does the VH thing really well and has plenty of gain, but sounds more "modern" than the other two.

Fargen is between the two, cleans are not as good as the LDW, but the crunch and gain are as good if not better, and the power scaling on the MKII allows you to get more sustain and squish at lower volumes.

overall, for the price if I was looking for a crunchy to mid gain amp (AC / DC to Iron Maiden for instance), I'd go with the Fargen if I didn't need the wattage of the other two.

Had one, not my cup of tea. I tried the one BruceM has and with an EQ pedal in front and an Artist with Rio's in it that thing sounded like a monster. I had a 1x12 combo and was not impress with the build at all. The clean Fenderish Tones it had were second to none but it wasn't very usefull other then wide open.

Jes1680, thanks for chiming in. Have been leaning toward a Fargen but just haven't found one in my budget yet. I'm having a hard time letting go of my Egnaters. They just sound so damn good, but the Splawn Amps are very well made, not bad on the prices for the Super Sport and the Street Rod. Not to mention the you can pretty much doll them up anyway you want at no upcharge. Tolex, Faceplate, knobs.

The only thing I'd say about the Splawn is that they have a mid range going on that some people don't care for, so try one before you buy if you get the chance. With the right guitar it's EVH all day long, the other two are better at the crunch / less gainy thing IMO.

As well it should. It has my stank all over it!

I hope Bruce honors the dibs I've called on it should he ever decide to sell it.
